Celtics star Kevin Garnett, the centerpiece of Boston’s 2008 championship and a key to its hopes of a repeat, could miss the playoffs because of a knee injury that has limited him to four games over the final two months of the season.

Celtics coach Doc Rivers said Thursday that Garnett will not be ready for Game 1 against the Chicago Bulls and possibly won’t be back at all.

“It’s not official that he’s out for the entire playoffs, but it’s official as far as I’m concerned,” Rivers said before practice at the team’s workout facility. “I just don’t see how. I hope I’m wrong, but I just don’t see it.”

Garnett has been the Celtics’ inspirational leader since joining them in a 2007 trade that completed the new Big Three and propelled the franchise to its record 17th NBA title. He averaged 15.8 and 8.5 rebounds per game for the defending champions this season.

“I’m devastated for him,” Celtics guard Ray Allen said. “This is the time of year you’ve been waiting for.”

If if he's shut down for the dance it swings the pendelum in the direction of King James and the Cavs even more to go to the Finals.

I wouldn't look past Orlando. They will give the Cavs fits.

Heard an interesting interview of Phil Jackson by Dan Patrick.

He asked Phil if he was starting a team what one NBA player would he choose.

He said Dwight Howard. Not Kobe, not Lebron, not Chris Paul.

Quite a compliment I'd say.

Anyway, it'll be the Cavs and Magic in the East finals I believe.

Phil understands this game is won by big men. His triangle offense traditionally works best with a dominant big man. Jordan was the anomaly. When you look at today's crop of big men its so weak compared to the guys in the 80s and 90s. A guy like Hakeem Olujawon could average 30 points a game if he played today. Dwight Howard is a beast and has shown a lot of improvement under the guidance of Pat Ewing. He's definitely the best center in the league right now. If Im starting a team right now though, I'm sorry, I'm taking Video Game James though. Nobody's stock is higher right now.

Orlando, Cleveland, and Boston are the only real championship contenders in the east anyways. In the west it could really go to anyone though, especially seeing the 5th seeded Rockets were only one game, record wise, away from the 2nd seeded Nuggets. Of course though, im sure every NBA fan would love to see a Lakers/Cavs NBA finals.

I'd prefer Lakers/Magic. ;)

It's a very heard decision between Howard and James, but those two are FAR above the rest in the league if I was picking. As dominant as James is, it seems like it's harder to find a good big man that can compete and be dominant right now. I agree, the 80's and 90's had some of the best C's ever, lately, there's really only a handful.

Yeah i would take Howard easily. Thats really a no brainer. There are too many good players at the same position as Lebron to pass up on someone like Dwight. Cats would be winning the title this year had we got the number one pick instead of the two. Charlotte always misses on the best centers in the draft.

I doubt Dwight would have hung around with a coach like Sam Vincent at helm...

    • you can't turn Teddy Bridgwater into a gunslinger just because that's what you want.   It's DNA and tools.  It's pretty simple.   You can try to make the best of what you have though.  Trying to make it work, doesn't change what Teddy naturally is.  Remember, folks argued that silly one too.  But it's the same logic here.  It's like saying, you know what Jake.....let's no longer gamble.  That's over.  We are just taking the safe checkdown.  Get it out nice and quick.  Sure, it might work here or there. But eventually he gonna see 89 in triple coverage downfield and say fug it.    round pegs are round pegs.  round holes are round holes.  we have seen people trying to force them forever......but the saying exist for a reason.  They generally are what they are.   the Luke comment was just a fun nod and trying to wrap this up friendly, I was trying to largely let you off the hook on all of your very stern lectures of the Tepper era we are in.....and how horribly wrong you have been there about what was coming.  Guess you got the goldfish thing going on with all those.  I would too.
