Chuckle on this....

In the last decade:

Drafted 11 pro bowlers (2nd most in the league)

Draftees still active in the NFL - 43 - (3rd in the league)

All 10 of there first round picks are still in the league and 11 of 14 2nd rounders.

They did all this while finishing with the best record over that time frame which means the least drafting power.

Sure not every pick of their's has been great but there is not a team in the league that drafts or evaluates players as good as the Patriots. Think I heard that over half of the active roster on the Patriots this year was made up of players drafted in the 4th round or later. I think that is a good indication on how good they are in evaluating players and getting the most out of what they have.

Look at the latter half of the decade when Pioli left, and compare their drafting to the Steelers, Giants, and Ravens (all teams who have been drafting late every year).

    • In a perfect world he’d play out his contract and if he looks great you can tag or extend him. But I wouldn’t offer more than a third. And I wouldn’t extend up front
    • I have already seen him mocked to 7.
    • I am not endorsing or rejecting.. just commenting. NYG GM Schoen and Morgan are like, vacation buds. Did the Burns trade already.  If we had interest it should be do-able. One year rental? Could be cheap. But it would need to be. Maybe a player could go back to them. More than that? Like trade for and extend him? I don’t know enough about him to really say about that. What LG just said sheds some light.    In a general sense, we have done well with our late rounders but the reason for that may apply less going forward. Tillis referenced this as well in his combine interview the other day. When you have holes everywhere it is easy to fill them with a draft pick, but once you have gotten things to a certain level that changes. At that point maybe a late round pick doesn’t upgrade your team like it did n previous seasons.  Hence the low picks become less impactful for us, there is less utility. Which could play into them being more willing to use them in a trade.
