A look at the cap hit from our players.

Thomas Davis has a cap hit of $11.9 million in 2012, release him and we're back under the cap.
they won't release him.

they will restructure that deal.

btw...8.25mil of that cap hit is due to an option bonus. if they pick up that option then his hit will be there. they put that in just in case he didn't do well or wasn't healthy, which he wasn't. they won't be picking up that option.

he'll either be released or restructured, but he won't be kept under that same contract.

I wont claim to be an expert on cap stuff and I will need factual links/info to believe any of you mouthbreathers.

Looks to me we could:

Release TDavis and resign cheaper.

Extend Wharton

Extend Steve Smith

Cut Baker

and be sitting really comfortable under the cap.

That has a lot to do with him being near the end of a contract.

Not that facts have a place around here lately.

"LOLZ WHURTON MAKS MOAR THEN JARHI EVANS >>>!>!> LOLOLOL"

lol.. Naw, I don't mind how much or how little our players get paid. It's not my money. Just thought it was interesting that Wharton is making more than Evans, this year anyway.

Im pretty confident they will need to release him and sign him back at a lower rate.
yeah, i edited my previous post to include this...

this was written by yas before TD got hurt again

The Panthers renegotiated Davis’ base salary this year down to $1 million, but they gave him a $7 million signing bonus right up front. That brings Davis’ cap figure down to $2.4 million for this year, after it originally was scheduled to be $3.8 million.

The real key will be how Davis performs this season. If he fares well, he’ll be well paid going forward. If he struggles, Davis probably won’t be with the Panthers next season. That’s because his deal includes an $8 million option bonus for 2012. If the Panthers pay that bonus, they’ll also be paying bigger salaries to Davis down the road.

His 2012 base salary is $2.25 million and it jumps to $4.25 million in 2013. The base figure jumps to $5.75 million in 2014 and $7.25 million in 2015.

Bottom line here is the Panthers have secured their rights to Davis for the short term. If he’s able to fully recover, he’ll be taken care of for the long term.

the contract was written just in case he was going to stay healthy but was given so that they would have an out if he didn't.

    • The Bucs waived shilo sanders after he got ejected.
    • I'm just tired of ppl saying he's so accurate and then have to see recievers slow down to recieve the ball, ruining any chance at YAC
    • Some people will really look at stuff like this and say "no more excuses" but then make excuses to try and explain away the validity of big-time throws. 🙃   Back on topic though, as I mentioned in the other AT thread earlier, I hope that the team is still exploring the deal. If the Vikings want the Panthers to take on some of the salary, then it had better be at worst a 4th-round pick (though I imagine Dan angling for a 3rd). If they're willing to take on all of it, then maybe at worst a 5th. Tough pill to swallow, giving up a 4th for a 35yr old WR, but if MIN believes they can have similar success behind McCarthy then it could be a smart deal for them. Hell, if AT has any gas in the tank and gives them a 1yr sweetheart deal to close out at home, even better for Minnesota. Yea, Bryce loses his best and most reliable WR. Hunter Renfrow though isn't what I would call a huge step down though (if he's as advertised throughout camp), and it gives more reps to TMac + XL + Coker. This season is all about continued development and answering some of the looming questions (Is Bryce the guy? Is Evero the DC going fwd? How do the young WRs develop? How long does it take this defense to bounce back from being historically awful?).
