Building my first gaming rig

Ok, I know a little bit about computers but not enough to put together a great gaming rig. I know some of you guys are good with this stuff so I thought I'd ask some advice. I'd like to build a rig that can of course play all of today's games at the highest settings with 60fps or more but something that'll last for a while before I have to upgrade. I've been checking newegg but I don't really know what are the best motherboards, gpu's, etc. So what should I buy? (Case, motherboard, gpu, sound, cooling system(liquid a fad or really good?), network card, the whole works...etc.)

you should probably stick with a quality prebuilt before you end up in a money pit

I used to think this too... but I just built one for work that would be perfect for gaming with some tweeks...

Here's my parts list...

All you would need to add to that is a mouse, a high end gaming video card and a nice monitor if you don't have one. I already had a high end 3D graphics card (Quadro 4000) for this system here for my work.

Seriously it was a piece of cake to build this thing... it's fast as hell and runs great.

I think the current trend is

i7

some sort of mobo that can support crossfire/SLi with large memory capacity and fast bus speeds

12gb+ ram

nvidia gtx 5-- or AMD Radeon HD68-- or higher

psu 800W+

128gb+ ssd(not required)

bacon

for a high end gaming rig that should last about 2-3 years. 2-3 years is how frequently the consoles were coming out until 2005 and they've been at the same level for quite some time. Granted this will cost you quite the bit, but in 3 years, you'll only have to update your gfx card since i7s don't bottleneck anything. it shoudl run you around 1200ish if you already have a monitor/case/mouse/dildo/keyboard

^Do this.

As someone who has built & purchased gaming computers, spend a few extra bucks and get the Alienware.

Twice, gaming computers I built had issues that I couldn't have possibly been aware of prior to completion.

Once you have the mystery error and start to google is when you learn of the conflicting pieces of hardware.

you gotta upgrade the psu in yours to put a video card like that in it

o so you have close to 2k in your system

i was doing the math based on the lack of a video card and the fact that nobody sane would spend 500$ or more on a video card except zod

Yeah, more than that... with the monitors and all it's more than $3K...

That quadro alone cost $850 new. I also have this...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009222

with the Nvidia Vision kit (glasses and emitter)

Plus two other 22" LCD monitors on it.

It's worth every penny however... it's now my main workstation for work... I can look at layouts in Google Earth whilst simultaneously doing 3D stereo work and listening to Spotify. It also tears up images in Photoshop CS5 and opens any size AutoCAD drawing I can create.

oh yah the barebones was discontinued and i assumed it had a 300w psu in it. i also assumed it was like 150$

its more like 400, which brings the system total, without video card, for that system you built to close to 1500$

the pc i linked is 1 grand even with a very nice video card in it

so damn dude you have like a 2200$ pc you built yourself with only 1tb more hd and an OP vc to show for the extra 1200$

    • You're assuming just as well.   Morgan and Canales were hired 3 days apart.  I believe it was partially due to their connections in Seattle.  i believe Tepper wanted some familiarity with his GM and HC.  It is so easy to sit back and arm-chair QB over draft picks.  You don't know what the philosophy was going into the 2024 draft.  I believe Canales and Morgan were drafting for the future.  XL and Brooks point to that philosophy. Name me one GM that is 100% on draft picks.  Just one.  You're not going to find one.    I think year one picks weren't for what can you do for me now but Potential.   XL hasn't lived up to the hype of a 1st rounder.  I think we all can agree on that. However, there still is hope he comes around.  What I believe they saw in him was his speed after the catch.  He needs to get more consistent but when he gets the ball you kind of hold your breath just a second because if he gets free, he's gone.  The Brooks pick was a signing for the future, and no one could have guessed he would re-injure the same ACL.  This makes the pick look bad but Dallas was ready to draft him later that same round.  IMO we'll have to see what happens next season before we can call this a bust. Wallace has improved each season and for a third rounder has done well.  Sanders has shown flashes and considering the pick in the 4th round it wasn't a bad pick.  His sophomore season IMO was a little bit more productive.  Smith-Wade has been a good addition and has played well.  For a 5th round pick to get as much playing time as he has.  Most picks below round 3 should take a couple of years to get up to speed.  He's been a decent player.  Crumedy, no comment We turned Barrett into Jackson.  This was an amazing move and basically got a starting CB for a 7th round pick.  Pretty shrewd if you ask me. Coker, maybe the best Free Agent signing of the 2024 draft class. So, in short, you can't say that the draft was a bust.  It isn't a home run but all but one are still on the team and outside of Brooks have made contributions to wins.  2025 draft class has been much better with almost every pick making contributions this season.  Now take Fitterer's two years and compare them to Morgan and tell me that they have the same philosophy.
    • He hasn’t led crap, he’s on loaded teams and a piece of the puzzle. And he’s he has improved drastically but it took the ultimate QB whispers in Shanahan and KOC. You put him on this Panther team and he’s back to normal Darnold
    • Slavin and Jarvis week to week. Florida cheap shots took out our two best players.  I’d start KK so he can beat the brakes off someone.
