Mock Draft:

Trade down to the teens, get an extra second rounder

(1)

Fletcher Cox (DT Miss St.)

An absolute motor for a defensive line. He helps our line and ST-DFG unit in a big way. Two areas we for sure need help at.

(2-1)*edit

Vinny Curry (4-3 DE Marshall)

After some consideration and more searching, I realized Curry actually played 4-3 DE for a good part of his playing career so far. He thinks semi-linebacker after college which is good because I think he'd be fantastic against the run at DE which is exactly the type I'd like to see with Hardy. A playmaker. Yup

(2-2)

Jayron Hosley (CB/PR Virginia Tech)

If there is a CB who's been overlooked its Jayron. He's made to play this position in the NFL and the kid's straight got it. Hokie homerism aside, I've watched this kid play his entire career and want him on the Panthers. Last year he battled a some minor injuries well and pulled off a stellar season at CB. And he's not too shabby at PRs. He would be great back there with Gamble imo. Then we have Hogan, a FA & Butler at Nickle/Dime/Backup

(4)

Keenan Robinson (OLB Texas)

I've always been a bit of a Texas fan and I think Keenan would be a great fit for this team. He's a very underrated prospect who plays consistently and would be a very solid backup, potential starter, and ST contributer.

(5-1)

Brian Quick (WR App St.)

Here you go App State fans haha. Basically, I don't like the safeties or o-lineman here for us in the draft. I think we go with those positions in the FA. Then, we can focus on adding an additional weapon to Cam's arsenal. The TEs however remind me of Jon Fox types so we're looking at WR and RB-scat back. I see more in the WRs and think we need an additional red zone threat for Cam. Even though our offense drastically improved and we have Gettis returning, I think we have room to utilize one more guy beyond Smitty to compliment the likes of LaFell, Gettis, and whoever still is here.

(5-2/comp)

Jerry Franklin, ILB, Arkansas

Inside Linebacker backup boooom! He has been very consistent and solid for a few seasons now. He's just not super explosive top of the draft-like. Sleeper potential

(Rest of draft)

insert random ST help/sleepers/Russell Wilson here

every year a shitload of people are like "hurf durf gotta trade down fluhhhuhhuhuh"

don't see how this year is really any different

I'd say its similar to the 2007 draft. Only a few guys are in the for sure impact-player range with pretty much everyone past the top 4 or so prospects similar until the top of the second. You can't deny trading is done a lot on draft day so maybe we get involved this year. Its not out of the equation.

This is literally my ideal draft, except Branch. I love the DE position there, but would rather have Vinny Curry. My draft would look identical. I'd also draft a punter in the 7th round.

I was actually thinking about that...after smoking a bowl, I've changed it to Curry. We're on a very similar page haha :coolgleamA:

Didn't realize he has good experience at DE in a 4-3

You saved me time from having to make a mock. Haha. I think we have been on the same page for a few months now as far as mock drafts.

    • Bryce and Dave will determine how many games this team wins next year. It’s not on the WRs. The RBs. LBs. This is about 2 things: 1. Can Bryce continue to come up big in the few key downs that decide most games?  2. Can Canales evolve his play calling to counter punch like the big boys do. Half time adjustments.  teams that score 30+ points on the regular win more games than not. That’s on Bryce and Dave. The offense is top 10 at every position group, save for TE and QB. A baller TE is gravy but not crucial when the receivers are dudes.  The defense is the defense. It’ll be better this season, hopefully by a large margin, but Dave/Bryce is really where it’s at.
    • Normally I'd wholeheartedly agree with this. But I feel like teams figured out this offense after the Raiders game. Bryce was so inept the first 2 games that we couldn't really even run the offense. Dalton's first game showed what we had. But after that game, coverages got a lot tighter and windows were smaller. When Bryce came back in, his ability to extend plays made a big difference. It's really difficult to stop a QB that can beat/escape 1on1 tacklers. It puts a lot of pressure on the defense when you blitz. And he was completing throws in tight coverage with anticipation. Point being Bryce wasn't throwing to wide open receivers that were schemed open by the offense. Occasionally yes. But not often.
    • With the additions we've made to our roster combined with the state of the division and the conference as a whole there is no excuse for this team not to make a legitimate push for 8-9 wins. Anything less is honestly inexcusable. There will be no more free passes for being a doormat in this iteration of the league where even mediocre teams are competing for playoff spots.
