Steve Smith Promo 2012

It isn't wrong, it just suggests you are more a fan of the player than you are of the team. We have lots of Cam fans first and Panther fans second as well, so you aren't alone.

There are a big group of us who want a Superbowl for the Panthers and it does't matter who gets it for them. I have been a Panther fan before Smith and will be one after he is gone. But I admit that I surely hope we can get one while he is still here. The difference between us is that you might be okay with him being traded to another team who was more of a contender where I would be fine if he didn't play a down this season if that was the price of us getting a Superbowl. I doubt we would win one without him but the team is always more important than a player no matter who they are.

So if Smith were traded would you change allegiances to the new team or stay a Panther fan and root against him at least when we played his new team?? I suspect you would do the first and I would do the second.

I don't think the one necessarily precludes the other. I too, am a Panthers fan since that first scrimmage way back in the mid '90s. But I also can appreciate the many, many hours of pleasure I have taken from the play of Steve Smith, and the way he goes out and gives it his all each and every Sunday that he suits up. So while I would certainly never wish ill of any other Panther's chances to win a ring, if I had to choose the one guy who has been paying his dues the longest, it would be Smitty. If I had to pick the one player who brings his "A" game most consistently, it would be Smitty. Trust me, I love the whole team, but Smitty would have to be first among equals to me.

I feel the same way as Mega just because of the message. It would show that sometimes there is more than just statistics on a sheet of paper listing your attributes. It would show that you can overcome ridiculous odds if you work hard and aquire the knowledge. It would show that there's still a little something right in this country.

Look at my response to his response. It appeared in the first post that he was saying he carried more about Smitty getting a ring then the Panthers winning one. He then clarified that and I responded. Smitty has been a big part of the Panthers success over the years. Most folks would love for him to get a ring. Still for me at least, the team is more important than any one player.

    • Yeah, I was about to say I hope he's doing okay health-wise because he's not looking good in that pic.
    • Honestly, I dont  think he should be on the hot seat yet. A bad start to next year, then yes. Despite our mistakes on play calling this past season, we played better than anticipated overall. Bryce showed improvement and maturity (although still not nowhere close to our expectations). Better record and 2-15 to 5-12 to 8-9. Despite what we feel the stats dont lie we are improving by 3 wins a year. Could 11-6 be our expectation. That's a high bar but at the rate we are going, thats what its looking like. We all want to see a 5-12 to a 13-4 record but we are methodically moving up. Success doesnt happen overnight (well in most cases).  IMO we are struggling mostly on the defensive end. LB and edge are our biggest weakness. I see Bryce making improvements (even though I was a Bryce hater) next year. Biggest concern is LT on offense. How to fix this? We need a big name edge or to trade up and get a big name edge or LB and pick up one in FA and draft one. Also if in the 3rd we can pick up a TE. Dont know if Sanders is the answer or Tremble (even though I love Trembles blocking and power after the catch). If these two can get their footwork together they would be great. Maybe all they need is a better TE coach. And if Brooks can stay healthy and be the back we thought he could be, man that would be great
    • Dumbly blaming the best player on the team for everything.
