Another Mock With Another Trade

The Philadelphia Eagles have been shopping Asante Samuel throughout the past season and offseason, which is why I see a draft day trade involving Samuel next week. It could be with a number of teams, but for this mock, that team is the Carolina Panthers. The trade breaks down like this:

Panthers get: Round 1 (#15), Asante Samuel

Eagles get: Round 1 (#9)

Now before everyone craps their pants about Samuel's contract; the Panthers were able to talk Samuel down to $6mil/year (3.5 down from his current contract). In this trade, we add a legit starting CB to pair with Chris Gamble. We also only drop 6 spots with CB no longer a draft need.

Now for the draft picks.

Round 1 (#15): Quinton Coples, DE/UNC

So we trade back and still grab one of our top prospects. I see Jacksonville going with Floyd and Miami going with Tannehill, leaving a big possibility that Coples falls down to #15. We need serious help with the pass rush and Coples is my highest rated pass rusher. At this spot, it's a no brainer.

Round 2 (#40): Jerel Worthy, DT/Michigan State

We sure up our DL with Worthy at #40. Like Coples, I would expect Worthy to be a day 1 starter. Worthy is a dominant presence who is known to draw a double team (which would happen with Johnson and Coples lining up with him). The potential is through the roof with this guy and if he's there at #40, Hurney and Rivera should be drooling at the opportunity of adding a 2nd starter to the DL.

Round 4 (#104): Marvin McNutt, WR/Iowa

McNutt is a guy that has been overlooked in this draft. He is a big, physical receiver with great speed for his size. He has shown great ability to break tackles and make YAC. Also shows great body control when going up for a 50/50 ball. Experienced and willing run blocker, which is huge for WRs in our offense.

Round 5 (#145): Josh Kaddu, OLB/Oregon

Kaddu is another underrated prospect who should be available in round 5. He didn't put up huge numbers this past season, but he was impressive in the Shrine Bowl. He has shown the ability to create plays in the backfield, something the Panthers currently lack.

Round 6 (#180): Blake DeChristopher, OT/Virginia Tech

Big. Ugly.

Round 6 (#207): Darius Fleming, OLB/Notre Dame

Showed good speed at the combine. Would like to see Rivera get a hold of this guy and get him to perform to his potential, something he didn't do while at Notre Dame.

Round 7 (#216): Drew Butler, P/Georgia

Superbowl.

Quite a few mock drafts have Coples going anywhere from 15-25. Scouts apparently are cooling on him bc of his motor. And Jerel Worthy in most mock is going in the first few picks of the second round, who's to say he couldn't fall a couple of places and be there at the 40th pick.

As for the trade, They would need to toss a little something more in with Asante to trade up. Reports are they are asking a 3rd or 4th for asante. And with the trade proposed they would be getting a 2nd round value out of him. If it was Eagles 1st, 3rd and Asante would put a 4th round value on him. 1st, 4th and Asante would put a 3rd round value, either I would be ok with.

This would solve our whole draft 1st and 4th we could still get brockers in 1st, Chandler jones, NIck Perry, Mecilus, Curry in second, plus two 4th round picks for LB depht i would personally pick up Nigel Bradham and Kennan RObinson if they are avilable. 5th round OL. Danny Coale in 6th, Speicial Teams or whatever in 6th and seventh. Perfect draft! oooo please let this happen!

    • Another layer to that is Ive seen Seattle has been in the market for CB help this off-season.   Michael had a higher PFF grade than Horn who got 15 games this season. He wants to be here too, that's a huge bonus for any 5 win team that had awful pass rush.  The 7th rounder Michael Barrett didn't last long on Seattle, he was cut before the season I think and ended up on browns PS. He's already been on 5.......5 teams within one year.......
    • You have gave the board some recent gold via posting. Heres my poor attempt at the truthful play-by-play of the time during post- I pulled out the old laptop to do my shitposting and check on websites. Open the huddle and see this new thread. Open thread and read CRAs post, {inner thinking, oooOOooo this is my lane and I got this}. Make sure not to scroll even to the 2nd post. 23% of current neurons still firing start up and two names appear- Captain and Josh....... about another 43 seconds past "O GOD" it's July 4th weekend and I got medicine to pick up. (If the laptop didn't give away my aging, the meds should...) I need to split, think long panther careers and the hint-  Ryan Kalil was a late 2nd and Pro bowls(even all-pros too) he's got to be OLman and Mikie Minter is among the all-time Panthers career leaders. Drop my post. Scramble to get keys, wallet, and phone. Check my phone- its 17% battery.....fug I now have to raw dog the pickup line and put the phone on charge.... Flip flops, sweat ringed filled hat, and shades acquired. Get in my pos rav4 and think about not running the A/C. Pull out the drive way and reach the 1st stop light, A/C is wide open. I check my shirt to see if there's any new stains on my house shirt, bush off the Bojangles salt that I see.... Neurons re-fire and focus on the comments CRA made that no one would get this....... Dang IT, that means it isn't Ryan Kalil or Mike Minter! CVS is close, but I know its impossible I get back withing 10 minutes to change my post and my phone is on the charger. {Think you monkey, at one point you were a draft nerd}. Reach the CVS line, by some grace its not 5 cars deep during 5 o'clock traffic hell. Im second in line after the car in front of me both turn in, they have to go back and forth to line up while Im a pro for that geometry. Neurons finally reach peak performance as Ive re-thought draft classes. Think obscure and unknown 7th rounders with long careers. Some Sunday/Monday night member berry fell out of my Melon, Will montgomery during the players intros for washington. I thought he out of the league and was shocked to see him still playing around the 2015 years. I do a goggle background check and that refreshed memory. Pick up the meds and enjoy the sweet smelling cool CVS air. Driving back and check in on one of the local bums at the big stop light, wow he's got a new fancy rug. Think about all the old food I got and need to start giving it away and rethink it. Reach home and post a follow up and I know Minter is wrong too, I check the draft history and see Robert Mcclain. Too late, but that would have been my guess....open CRAs link and get "upset" at the DBs name.
    • THANKS my guy! Keeping up with this threads theme, if I view a thread and there's only 20 posts and some time passes. If I see there's one new post and read the name; @Dave Gettleman's Shortsis among the chosen few that I will reopen that thread just to see what you posted.    Thanks again, plus not just a scout, thats scotty mccloughans son?!?!? If not for the deep claws of booze, scotty is among the best talent finders this league has recently had. Last I heard he ran a consulting business. Caden could be one of those who's on a early path to being a GM in the future. I was a big fan of his dad, dam shame about booze demon ruining his career.
