My Completely Different Mock Draft

I've been a strong advocate for a DT with #9 pretty much from the start (barring Claiborne being available). I still prefer Brockers, but I'd be happy with Cox. My sensible side says we'll probably take Coples. This is my attempt at a mock that doesn't have us taking one of them.

1st Round #9. WR Justin Blackmon

The Rams take Cox, the Jags buy into the "Floyd is better than Blackmon" hype and Hurney takes a guy that will have an immediate big impact. I don't think WR is our #1, 2 or even 3 need but we will need a #1 before too long and I don't think that guy is currently on our roster. This is a pick for the future more than the present, though he'll contribute early and often as Newton to Blackmon becomes a Sportscenter staple.

2nd Round #40. DT Devon Still

Still's injury concerns cause him to fall to the upper part of the 2nd round where the Panthers are happy to address their #1 need with a guy many were projecting us to take at #9 early in the draft season. I think Still is actually better than Cox and if he can stay healthy Hurney will have his second ever stud pick in the 2nd round.

4th Round #104. CB Chase Minnifield

Many will say the 4th is too late to address CB. I mostly agree, but the first two picks were too good to pass up. I like Minnifield better than a lot of the press he's getting these days. Good value in the 4th, in my opinion, and he'll at least give Hogan some competition for that starting #2 spot.

5th Round #143. Demario Davis

Decent size, very good speed, good instincts, violent hitter without going overboard (looking at you, Burfict). I don't know why this kid isn't getting more hype, but if we can get him in the 5th I would be ecstatic. My mid round crush, if TD can't go I expect this guy will be good enough to start early and could develop into a very, very good OLB for us.

Round 6 #180. P Bryan Anger

"Wah wah wah why spend a draft pick on a Punter when you can get one as an UDFA?" Shut up. Field position is incredibly important. Our defense wouldn't have looked so terrible if teams didn't get to start on the 40 yard line after every punt. Yes that's an exaggeration, but the point isn't.

Round 6 #207. FS Janzen Jackson

Yea, he's got character concerns (reportedly he held up a guy with a pellet gun lol), but Hurney likes his late round DBs and if he's matured a bit he could be a solid rotational guy. Supposedly has good cover skills for a Safety. If he hasn't matured, we wasted a 6th round comp pick. Whatever.

Round 7 #216. OG Rokevious Watkins

Hurney realizes with his last pick "oh crap I haven't taken someone from the Carolinas yet! Double crap, all my picks have easy to pronounce names! I'll kill two birds with one stone!" Honestly, I just picked a guy that looks like he could go around our pick in the 7th with solid measurables from the Carolinas.

It's very good mock draft, but I doubt Jaguars pass on Blackmon.
