Larry Allen Vs. Amini Silatolu

Before anyone gets their panties in a bunch for posting another Silatolu thread, I just wanted to share this article because this is the article I read recently that made me want to draft Silatolu with our second pick. A lot of fan's that are upset with the pick say "Oh he played against weak opponents". I never like doing this, but we haven't seen such a similar comparison in a while so I thought I'd give it a chance.

Larry Allen was an offensive linemen at D2 Sonoma State University, and an 11 year pro bowler in the NFL. As you all know by now Silatolu attended Midwestern state which is also a D2 program. The comparisons have been going on for quite a while now between the two and this former 49er coach isn't afraid to say he sees that potential in this young man.

Article: http://blog.sfgate.com/49ers/2012/04/24/former-49ers-dl-holt-gives-offers-scouting-report-on-silatolu/

“The thing that I like about him from what I saw on film is he’s a strong run blocker and he’s got good feet for pass protection,” said Holt, who spent eight seasons with the 49ers and Falcons. “… His footwork is exceptional and he’s certainly strong enough.”

I've read and have seen nothing but good things about him. Seems the only potential negative stuff is he wasn't at a top tier school.

Pretty much. Not a sexy position, not a sexy school. He's bound to have doubters until he proves his worth on the field.

My only serious question about this is: Was this a 2nd round need? I've come to the point where I feel like trusting this coaching staff is probably the best possible move right now, because not only are they doing things I wouldn't do, they're doing things I wouldn't expect.

But hey, look at the progress this group made in 1 season, no choice but to say In Ron Rivera I Trust (I guess?)...

On the flip side, this was a safe move for Hurney in round 2...I don't know much about this kid, is he solid NFL starter material, or is he simply a Hangartner upgrade?

You can look at it like, do you wanna keep drafting late round offensive linemen like Geoff Shawrtz, Zack Williams, that just sit on the bench and leave sub par players starting like Hangartner and Pollack, or do you wanna spend a 2nd rounder on a first round quality OG that can start immediately and make an impact.

    • I don't think it's a homer though when I really feel this team can beat anyone.  The points that can be scored in bunches when the big three are on has high potential.  Moose has effort for days and IMO is the heart of the team.  And didn't see Miles becoming the team "vet" in the starting lineup just roleplaying lol.   We have to limit the turnovers though (Brandon Miller I'm looking at you bud, you are a bad ball handler) and some little things.   Colby off the bench is a cheat code and him and Kaulk have a nice little game going with the picks.    Sion playing every game and just getting better each game.  He has grit.  Grant and Green also grit.  We need replace Tillman with PJ Hall though.  Tillman looks like someone that shouldn't be on an NBA court, or at least with this team, he's just too slow for this tempo.   Even McNeely looked decent tonight and can drive.   If Kaulk and Moose could even be like 30% 3pt shooters man....
    • 1.) LaMelo 2.) Kon 3.} Miller 4.. Giannis 5.) Moose   1.) Coby 2.) ? 3.) Sion 4.) Miles Bridges 5.) Kalk That squad would win multiple chips.
