Former West Virginia QB Jarrett Brown

He's a guy I liked in the draft a couple of years ago that I was hoping we would pick up late. Instead we ended up with Tony Pike. Brown ended up with San Fran as an UDFA.

Has a cannon of an arm , pretty decent scramble ability, and good size at 6'3 225.

Some highlights here

No we have not. If it were not for the immature and unwarranted Jimmy bashing somebody would have already ended this thread with stating the fact that this guy, despite making a few neat throws on a highlight video is no where even close to what we need in a backup.

What we need in a backup is someone who can fill in for cam in all phases of the game to keep us from missing a beat. To me that means we need a QB with good size, arm strength/accuracy, athletic ability , and scramble ability. Decision making is the red flag on this guy as far as i've heard. That's all. It's not like im electing him the next savior of the franchise just said he may be what we are looking for at least in terms of intangibles.

I am a WVU fan because my cousin plays on the team and most of my mom's side of the family went there. He is a defensive back so he is good friends with Brandon Hogan, Keith Tandy, Robert Sands etc... so I have seen my share fair of WVU games and been to a few up in Morgantown back when Brown played and he is an athlete, not a quarterback. WVU never has really had a true quarterback for a while Pat White and Jarrett Brown are both athletes and I never thought either would materialize to anything in the NFL because neither showed the skill set that Cam did.

On the other hand, Brown does have the body of an NFL quarterback. I just don't think he has a future in Charlotte.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Panthers use a pick on a quarterback with Cam Newton's skill set in next years draft or replace Anderson in free agency with Jason Campbell.

Good post .. thanks for the insight on the situation. That's kind of how I feel looking at him too. He just looks like he has so much untapped potential. Who is coming out in the near future that fits the bill?

He was a good quarterback but I'm not sure it's enough that I would feel comfortable if Cam went down with an injury.

If teams still carried three active quarterback's into game days I would be all for it, but I'm just not sure on how Brown would adjust to being the only back-up on game day.

I wouldn't either yet. He would have to be in a system longer than a training camp first :P He's yet to have that chance.

Well the thing is, he had a great opportunity to prove himself on the Colts practice squad last year but if he couldn't find a home with the Colts piss poor quarterback's last year, I don't know if he could find one here.

Now I still believe he is practice squad eligible and could see him finding a home on the Panthers practice squad.
