If the season started today....

here would be my predicted 53 man roster. Look at every position and ask yourself...is this a Super Bowl roster? Note: I'm going to predict this assuming that Peppers will remain a Panther, but that he'll hold out indefinitely. Starters are bolded:

QB: Jake Delhomme, Josh McCown, Matt Moore

RB: DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, Mike Goodson ®

FB: Brad Hoover, Tony Fiammetta ®

WR: Steve Smith, Muhsin Muhammad, Dwayne Jarrett, Jason Carter, Ryne Robinson

OL: Jordan Gross, Travelle Wharton, Ryan Kalil, Keydrick Vincent, Jeff Otah, Duke Robinson ®, Geoff Schwartz, Mackenzy Bernadeau, Gerald Cadogan ®

TE: Jeff King, Dante Rosario, Gary Barnidge

DL: Everette Brown ®, Charles Johnson, Ma'ake Kemoeatu, Damione Lewis, Tyler Brayton, Corvey Irvin ®, Hilee Taylor, Nick Hayden

LB: Jon Beason, Thomas Davis, Na'il Diggs, Dan Connor, James Anderson, Landon Johnson, Anthony Heygood ®

S: Chris Harris, Charles Godfrey, Nate Salley, Quinton Teal

CB: Chris Gamble, Richard Marshall, C.J. Wilson, Dante Wesley, Sherrod Martin ®

K: John Kasay, Rhys Lloyd

P: Jason Baker

LS: J.J. Jansen

If Peppers returns, say goodbye to Nick Hayden.

I agree. Injuries on either line will kill us. And I still don't like Brayton or Charles Johnson as a starter. They're backup-quality.

Ehh Brayton really started to turn it up the last handful of games last season.

He's no pro-bowler, but I think he can be a starter.

Really more worried about the O-line than the Dline.

Things could get really discombobulated (fug I spelled that right on the first try) if we lose one of those guys for the season.

*edit*

Actually tackle is our biggest weak spot, lose Gross or Otah and things start getting sketchy, ESPECIALLY gross, thats like losing two starters (Wharton is back-up LT).

Can we discuss other possible rosters or just discuss our chances given this roster?

Discuss other possibilities if you like. This one makes the most sense to me based off the number of players the Panthers usually carry at each position. It's very possible that Heygood and Cadogan won't make the team though.

Nah, not enough of a pass rush without Peppers and alot really depends if your secondary has turned it around from having an abysmal year.

If they can get a few more INTs, then I say your close... still a handful of teams with more overall talent in the NFC.

I agree, but the regular starters on the defensive line will get their asses handed to them by the regular starters on the offensive line this year. Not sure if any other Panthers roster throughout history could say such a thing.

whats wrong with charles johnson as the starter..some full time DE did not get as many sacks as he did last year as a backup

Stopping the run could be a headache for sure.

I think we actually have one the faster lines we have had tho.

Getting either A) ahead early and by a decent bit or B) 3rd and 8+ will be critical.

I forgot to add that the secondary still looks sketch. The defense as a whole is extremely weak other than the linebackers.

Mildly comfortable with the secondary.

I think Martin can be a player, and Gamble/Marshall should excel in this new scheme.

We are just use to having exceptional CB depth.

    • My projection. I think at WR its time to go with youth. This means Moore should be the odd man out. Horn can return both punts and kicks and Tremayne is a better WR than Moore. XL gets one more year to prove himself, although I could see a trade in the future which would mean Moore could stay. For OL, I would like us to bring back Brady if we can. The RBs, Trevor can return both punts and kicks too. With the uncertainty of Brooks and Dillon, its hard to choose either one. I think the team would like for Brooks to have a breakout season to clear any uncertainty that he deserves a spot. For now, I have them both even and on the team. DL looks solid as well as OLB. Watch out for the UDFA of Aaron Hall and Isaiah Smith at OLB. They look promising and could knock someone off the team. ILB is still the biggest weakness on the team. We need to upgrade that any means necessary. CB is strong and Im praying to all the Gods that Wheatley beats out Scott at FS.  OFFENSE: WR: Tetairoa McMillan - *Chris Brazzell II* - Brycen Tremayne TE: Tommy Tremble - James Mitchell LT: #Rasheed Walker# - *Monroe Freeling* LG: Damien Lewis C- #Luke Fortner# - *Sam Hecht* RG: Robert Hunt - #Saahdiq Charles# RT: Taylor Moton - #Stone Forsythe# TE: Ja`Tavion Sanders - Mitchell Evans WR: Xavier Legette - Jalen Coker - Jimmy Horn Jr. QB: Bryce Young - #Kenny Pickett# RB: Chuba Hubbard - Trevor Etienne - #AJ Dillon# - Jonathon Brooks DEFENSE: LE: Tershawn Wharton - Bobby Brown III  NT: *Lee Hunter* - Cam Jackson RE: Derrick Brown - LaBryan Ray LOLB: Nic Scourton - Patrick Jones II  LILB: Trevin Wallace - Bam Martin-Scott - *Jackson Kuwatch* RILB: #Devin Lloyd# - Claudin Cherrelus  ROLB: #Jaelen Phillips# - Princely Umanmielen LCB: Jaycee Horn - Akayleb Evans RCB: Mike Jackson - *Will Lee III* - Chau Smith-Wade SS: Tre`von Moehrig - Lathan Ransom FS:  Nick Scott - *Zakee Wheatley* - Demani Richardson  SPECIAL TEAMS: K/KO: Ryan Fitzgerald P/H: Sam Martin KR: Trevor Etienne - Jimmy Horn Jr. PR: Trevor Etienne - Jimmy Horn Jr. LS: J.J. • His contract is guaranteed.  Legette is just not where he needs to be mentally.  Not fully invested, it seems.
    • Literally like Hill. He's not QB1 material (now or ever), but if we can turn him into a H-back and use him like  Swiss army knife, that's his ticket to make the roster.  H-back/emergency QB.  I wonder how good his hands are?  If they are at least above average by NFL standards then we can line him up in the backfield, in the slot, split out wide and of course, in the Wildcat.
