Pinehurst No 2

I played well & still shot a 94 there today. Dad shot a 72 or 73, I can't remember. Around home & other courses I shoot 70-75. Beautiful golf course, but it will make the most laid back guy break a few clubs.

My late grandfather was a businessman/contractor around that area & built a lot of the buildings/resorts around the Pinehurst links. Visiting family yesterday I ran into an executive of the links who was a friend of my grandfather & was offered a free round. Otherwise I couldn't afford a $450 round of golf.

That's my story of the day.

Nice.. went there for the final round of the '05 US Open but never played it. I'm playing to about a 10 handicap at my home course and I doubt I could break 90 on #2 even playing well.

I wanted to go in '05, but I was a rising junior in high school & had summer b-ball workouts. I believe the US Open will be played there again in a few years.

Dad shot -1 on the front 9 then slipped up on the back 9 just a little. It was bad enough he killed me, but on top of it he likes to talk poo to me. Oh well, it was still fun. I played pretty well, that course is just so far out of my skill level.

Have you ever played any of the other courses there?

I played 2 & 8 in the late 90's and for the most part stayed out of trouble. But my biggest problem is I hit a dead ball- with very little spin- and I hit very high iron shots. So, I was hitting where I needed to be, but couldn't get anything to stay on the greens. You have a 3000 square foot green and the real landing area is about 10% of that, otherwise it's rolling off somewhere.

I remember hitting a lot of greens in reg.... for a minute.... before they rolled off. I've never scrambled so much in my life!

I've also played Olympia Fields, where Furyk won his US Open, a couple days after that tourney; and I've played both Sedgefield and Greenbriar a couple days after their PGA tourneys- both of them I know well, but are almost unrecognizable after the PGA gets done fixing them to pro standards.

Won't mention my scores, but I'll just say, when the TV commercial says, "These guys are good," you better believe it...

I've played #2 about 4 times. My best has a place out there. I love that course. I think my low was a 72 and high was an 84. You just can't try to beat that course or it will tear you up.

Hitting fairways isn't too difficult and the greens are a good size. If you come up short on most of the pin placements, you are looking at some roll back and a two-putt or up and down to from there.

The most difficult holes for me were the par 3s. I don't have much spin on my ball, so it's tough to make it sit. I end up having to run the ball up and that's tough to control.

    • I saw the list, agree Minshew would be on the list of possible guys as well as the rest of the list.  Mac Jones would probably be the highest possible target though that would require a trade. All that said, heres a darkhorse that I wouldnt be surprised...Carson Wentz.  I know he looked rough his last time out, however he was clearly pretty dangerously injured and kept playing through it.  When he was healthy in Minnesota he looked pretty fricken good.  Last full season he started he threw for 3500, 27td, 7 INT.  He did start the next season for a washington team running a scheme that does not fit him.  I think the things that Canales is looking for his QB to do, that Wentz does well.   Wentz however with his age would not be any kind of long term solution, a decent backup but more like actual competition would be needed to go into the season.
    • This reads as someone trying to suggest changes while treading lightly so Daddy Tepper doesn’t come down too hard on them.  Because flatly, the problem is Bryce.  I don’t think Canales is a perfect coach, but you can see the limitations in what can be called, what is called, and the amount of times Bryce fugs up plays all by himself.  Someone brought up the bootlegs being useless because there is always a free defender rushing - think about how different that play looks with a 6’2”+ QB with a strong arm and mobility.  I can’t count the number of times Bryce has thrown and missed bc he can’t see, it gets deflected, he chucks it away, or his patented run and fumble just on bootlegs and roll outs.  By percentage of those plays per player I have ever watched, Bryce has more negative plays WITHOUT A fuging DOUBT than anyone I have ever watched before.  Like an uncanny ability to fug up the simplest of things.  I have never seen anything like it.  And then, as I mentioned in the other thread, when you string those seemingly one-off plays together, and those stack over the course of a game, poo looks really disjointed.  It is Bryce.  Enough of this nebulous ass “something’s afoot!” bullshit.
