In a Fox offense...he likely would have been one of the best RBs in the NFL last year if he was the featured RB.

In a Chud offense with Cam....he just doesn't have the overall skill set to be a top 10 RB. He can't get on the field enough. Stewart's skill set fits this current team better....and the proof was in the playing time

They were on the field about the same time and Williams had more carries than Stewart

Carolina just paid him a huge contract.....and Stewart played a higher % of snaps than any RB in the division. That is a clear STATISTIC showing Stewart fits better.

Age was another clear stat....and it matters going forward. Statistcally, using NFL history....do you want a stud at 26 or 29?

For CRA, tell me that Stewart will be the better, more productive RB in 2014 and beyond, and you'll get no argument from me.

It also just so happens to be the 1st year we can cut DWill and have a small positive impact on the cap. Until then, my hope is they can both be productive for us.

i did watch the game...that's how i know the official starter was whoever's name is on the paper versus the actual starter in the game. stewart carried the load that game. in the end, it simply reinforces that stewart excels when he's not splitting with williams.

Again: Goodson - 14 carries, Stewart - 12 carries...are you that stubborn that you're seriously trying to maintain the notion that Stewart carried the load that game? By that logic, Stewart carries the load in every game he plays with DeAngelo Williams too since they split carries by a similar ratio. Stewart was more EFFICIENT carrying the ball than Goodson that game, but he did not carry the load. I don't understand how that's so hard to grasp...it's not even debatable. Is there miscommunication here or something? When I say someone is "carrying the load", I'm referring to him being given a large majority of the carries as a featured back would.

Really? See, this is why I had to bring up statistics into the argument or else it would have been a bunch of unsubstantiated subjective nonsense like this. I can do that too: NO ONE outside of the Huddle is convinced that both backs would be top 5 backs if they were featured on different teams. Even if your statement was true...so what? A bunch of homers are convinced that their running backs could both be top 5 on other teams? Wow, how insightful...in related news: Cam Newton is the best QB in the game, the Panthers are the best team in the league, and Ron Rivera is the best coach. If you point out a single un-biased, somewhat respected analyst who says that on the other hand, it'd be a little more credible. Panthers fans for the most part are gonna think a little more with their hearts, not with their brains...I doubt they're pulling up statistics on the matter and considering every variable on the matter.

you can't measure williams's individual success because he's never been in a position to do so...since, as some would call "injury prone", stewart has yet to miss any significant time for him to fill in.

Some, myself included, would argue that being the featured back in 10 games throughout his 4-year career can hardly be considered "significant time". He even had his 2nd-lowest carry total of his career during that 2010 season despite Williams' absence. Like I said earlier, McFadden can be a top 3 back for half a season but he'll never be truly elite if he can't stay healthy. Stewart could be indestructible for all we know, all I'm saying is he hasn't been given the chance either to prove he can carry the load. The fact that he could stay healthy in 2010 as the featured back for 7 games is encouraging (concussion aside), but that's not even half a season.

stewart, on the other hand, does have measureables that cannot be ignored. back to the ypc stat that everyone loves...he averages 4.6 ypc in games the he and williams have played in together...5.4 in games where williams never set foot on the field.

stewart doesn't need williams to be successful. we have yet to see williams prove he can do it without stewart.

Interesting stat...I didn't take the time to calculate that myself, but the sample size is too small to make a judgment call on him. The data looks encouraging (I think Stewart has a good chance at being in the top 10 if he was a featured back somewhere), but inconclusive. I don't understand why you sound so skeptical about YPC though...of course that's the most meaningful statistic for a running back. Most backs should be able to get 1000+ yards if they're given the ball 300 times a season. If people were to disregard YPC, then Cedric Benson would be one of the premier backs in the league....instead, he's still out there un-signed, looking for a job.

My issue is just with the people who are content with simply doubling Williams/Stewarts' individual stats to determine how they'd do as a featured back....and those that are ready to crown them as top 5 featured backs hypothetically, when they are unproven as anything but a top-notch duo.

The last time he went on IR, was at the end of 10. We were not going anywhere, so they shut him down. So, yes, he has been on IR once. Still a low number for a RB.

actually it was a little after the midpoint of 2010. He also got IRed close to the end of the year in 2009, which would make two.

Jackson is a beast. He is on a level all his own right now. That said, DWill has had a productive career in his own right. And is still comparable to almost any RB in the league.

Why are you making this point? It doesn't discount the fact that simply translating stats to make someone look better is silly, which is the point I was making.

DWill is still an above average RB. Personally, I am sooooo glad he is a Panther.

the Panthers have literally found no success besides squeaking out a division title since DeAngelo joined the team. I think we could be equally mediocre with or without him.
