I find this article by Mike Florio pretty funny.

Did I say that I wanted to copy anyone? Nope.

I said that this is a passing league and we are still stuck in the 70's thinking that you have to have a loaded backfield to win football games.

You have to be able to run the ball, I got it, I just don't agree with spending 10% of our salary cap on the running back position.

I don't want more WR (although we need a solid no. 2) we need more CB's, DE's, and DT's and we could have some of those if we weren't so heavily invested in the backfield.

I still rather play a team with no backfield than a team with a good backfield.

I say we:

Pay Stewart the same contract as DWill.

Extend Thomas Davis.

Draft another linebacker to play in the 43 next year with our top spot.

Keep Captain at the no. 2 CB position.

Count on Edwards to be a stellar DT next year.

And last but not least make sure that we can run the ball effectively in a passing league, with a top arm talent at QB.

6-10.....but hey it's better than the Jags.

Yeah. Drafting Keuchly was a turrble idea, because our LB core was stellar last year.

And if we unloaded DWills salary we could get, Suh, Ngata, Mathias, Dumerville, Polamalu, Ed Reed, and Champ Baily.

It's the true Madden curse, I tell you. Having to read this garbage.

Majority of teams once in the Playoffs win by having a better running game than the opponenent at the end of they day.

yet ever year there are teams in the Superbowl with garbage ground games and bad defenses.....

Passing teams can overcome a bad ground game and D. Good running teams need a lot of help from the rest of the team.....which is why they struggle to consistantly be in the mix every year. Passing teams have an easier time consistantly being dangerous

When will people realize that you need both the passing and running game to win in this league. And not a passing team and a good defense. A good backfield opens up the passing game for Cam "and" helps keep the other team's offense stay on the sideline.

We won majority of our games last year when we ran the ball well. When we didn't, we loss.

How many fuging running backs do you need to have a "good" running game?

We have 3 that could start on half of the leagues offenses.

I have softened heavily on the Keuchly pick.

Lets do this tho.

Which would you rather have.

Stew locked up long term and another capable starter in the defensive backfield brought in after the lockout.

Dwill, Stewart, Tolbert (2 of which are getting big deals) and our current defensive backfield.

This is all water under the bridge and honestly not worth all the explaining me and thefuzz are having to do here.

We do not dislike the players, we dislike the priority placed on them.

No we aren't working for the Panthers, No it isn't our money, and no we can't do a fuging thing about it.

But instead of sitting around and handjobbing each other on how OMGZ TEH AWESOME our over priced backfield is, we are bringing up significant points and personal concerns on the direction our team is headed offensively and the SERIOUS issues that can/have developed with the defense over the past few years.

2011 Playoffs

Texans over Cincy

NO over Det

SF over NO

NY over NE

NY over Atl

2010 Playoffs

GB over Philly

Pitts over Ravens

GB over Atl

Chi over Seattle

Jets over Pats

GB over Chi

Seattle over NO

Ravens over Chiefs

Those aren't all examples....

2010- You cited the 24th ranked attack beating the 22nd, 12th, and 5th attack.

2011- You cited the 32nd ranked attack beating 2 teams.

Say what you want. The team that runs better tend to win more. I rather be in a position where I know I have a good running game going into a game than not. Even if I come out the winner or not. A good running game helps the passing game and defense no matter what. And it still do even when we're in a passing league now.

NO has three running backs, I dnt hear their fans whining. Be glad we have two stud RBs and a stud FB/RB.

Lets compare age, invest financially, and production of NO backs and ours last year.

I have a feeling we would be disappointed.

fug I will do it now.

DWill- 836 Yards 7 TD's 16 catches 135 yards 0 TD 5yrs 43 Million

Stew 761 Yards 4 TD's 47 Catches 413 yards 1 TD 5yrs 20 million (Rookie Deal)

Dwill is close to 30, Stew is 25 ? I think

NO's Running Backs

Sproles 603 yards 2 tds 86 catches 710 yards 7TD's 4yrs 14million

Ingram 474 yards 5tds 4yrs 7million (Rookie Deal)

Thomas 562 yards 5 Td's 50 catches 300yrds 1 TDs 4yrs 11mill

Sproles in close to 30

Ingram is early 20s

Thomas is mid 20's

So in closing of the complete raping of you all's opinions on the matter

The Saints* got roughly 1500+yrds on the ground 1000 yards in the air and 20 TD's last year on a cap hit roughly 7 million

The PANTHERS got Roughly 1500+ yards on the ground 500 yards in the air and 12 TD's for a cap hit of 10million.

500 Yards...8 TD's on 3 million less

All of this doesn't even get into the clusterfug that it will be when we pay Stew like 50mill of 5 years or some bullshit.

The same can be done with less with how the league is set up right now.

Perhaps we will be the team that brings back the ground attack.

Perhaps we won't.

Bottom line is I along with many think we are paying DWill too much and will ultimately do the same with Stew, to the detriment of the team as a whole.

    • Here in lies the rub that the supporting posters continue to ignore. He wasn’t a 2nd round pick in the 2025 class, especially with an ACL tear. It was a dumb pick for any GM who looks ahead to determine values. C and CB were much better values than an injured RB in 2024. If a RB isn’t even playing much in 2024, you have to compare him to 2025. We’re beating a dead horse but only because the defense of the pick is almost comical at this point. We’ve made a ton of poo picks and moves/non trades while Morgan was GM and the assistant GM. It happens, we don’t have to jump through hoops to act like we just had some really bad luck. The 2025 draft class is unknown so far but damn it felt way better afterwards for the first time in a long time. Embrace the potential and stop stamping guaranteed on the box of poo of the 2018-2024 drafts. We are were we aware because of them and 2025 has to hit so we can get past the 7 win max in 7 year hurdle.
    • Oh for those tired of the Mannings I have bad news, Peytons son Marshal already has college teams after him and he isn't even in HS until this fall...   I'd wager we have two Mannings in the NFL in 2030
