I know how this forum is and that's why i rarely post on here. there alot of great things to take away from today's game. You can throw the first half out the window as far as i'm concerned. we got scheduled to open the season against a coach that no one has ever seen in the pros, and who had 7 months to game plan us. We had no clue what was coming on either side of the ball in the first half and it was obvious. It sucks, but it is what it is. The thing i'm encouraged by is that after only having seen them for one half we were able to game plan them and played much better. We only gave up 3 points and 12 yards passing in the second half. That's awesome! We also have a ton of guys either coming back from injury or who are new to our defense that all made plays to be happy about today. Frank alexander played well today and more than held his own. I didn't hear norman's name all day, which is great for a corner. Dwan edwards made a huge impact in the second half when he got in the game. Kuechley is obviously good. Captain actually looked very good in nickel situations and had a couple of beautiful break ups. And thomas davis is back! When our guys have time to gel, get their wind back, and can actually study film for a team we've seen before, i think our d can be much improved.

As Far as the offense, i'm really not worried. We didn't know what we were gonna see from them and got in a rhythm too late. We were missing j-stew and deangelo is notorious for starting the season slow. Pilares, murphy, and lafell all made plays i was happy with. And the o-line adjusted their protection much better after we had some film on tampa from the first half. The offense will be just fine. We have plenty of weapons. Overall, we just ran up on a shitty situation today and once guys get reps together and we can game plan in a normal fashion i still think we can play with any team in the league.

I agree with most of this, but our offense did surprise me very much with how poor they played. Now that there is so much game tape on us from last year, i can't help to wonder if this is going to happen more this year.

I don't think it's overly optimistic or homerish at all. I've seen your posts and your usually pessimistic, so i'm not surprised. No team is ever as good or bad as they look in week 1. Most teams don't start to show how good they're gonna be until about week 5 or 6. The NFL is all about adjustments. We have plenty of talent. Relax.

Well I don't consider myself to be pessimistic, I prefer realist. We are in a tough division and can not afford to lose but 3 or 4 games or we will not make the playoffs. Its not like we can make it with 8-8 or 9-7 like some teams in other divisions. So that is why I think this loss is huge.

Most teams don't start to show how good they're gonna be until about week 5 or 6. The NFL is all about adjustments. We have plenty of talent. Relax.

Wish I could, but there is this:

4 winning seasons in 17 years and we've lost 11 of 17 season openers. That is our history and tradition. I'm not pessimistic, I'm being realistic.

If we come out and put our collective foot on the Saints**' throats come Sunday, then we're right back at even. If we don't, look for more of the same.

Your correct that the division is tough. But we have 5 more division games and need to make them count. Nothing is over yet. It was just obvious that tampa had an exterme advantage in the first half with us not really being able to game plan them. And i don't think the offense was completely horrible. We just couldn't properly adjust our protections until we saw film from the first half. Cam was running for his life until then. i think we just need more reps and the ability to game plan normally and we'll be fine.

      I've liked him since his rookie year as a prospect, but when he's been asked to play in a large capacity, he has simply not done well.   He does not really add anything, rather muddies up the room.  Fant is TERRIBLE as a blocker, a pure receiving TE.   Let's just put Tremble aside since he's PUP (although I still like him as a TE2, but yeah he's not our future starter)... Sanders has already shown better receiving skills than a Fant and has a nice ceiling.  Not to mention, he's got in-line run blocking skills.  I really want to see what he's capable of this year.  Also has a year+ experience now in Canales' offense, not to mention legit chemistry with Bryce. And after Sanders, I also imagine our staff is waiting to see how Mitchell Evans looks in camp as he's got the in-line blocking skills.  If he looks fully capable of filling in behind Sanders, then I don't see a need.  Overall, keep an eye out on early August moves.  They are usually soft indicators of how staff's view their rookie late rounders and roster overall.  This is a wait and see what the market presents and how they think their unit looks in camp.

      Every team has different needs of the backup QB.   On some teams a young hopeful makes sense and on others an old worn out dude makes sense.  We are a little more in the in-between IMO where you probably would prefer a Fields, Pickett, Howell type IMO.   So a young disappoint that you there is still some hail mary hope in.....given BY essentially was benched both seasons for performance (I know that's not the official line going into Seattle but I think most would agree he got a break and should of been benched later that year).  I know we want Bryce to be the week 17 guy all season this upcoming year.  But it's still in the reasonable thought process that the other dude could show back up.

      I wouldn't mind it if they bring him in cheap for competition. I would imagine he would vie for the 3rd TE spot with the rookie.
