Giants game revisited. A few surprises emerge...

I re-watched the game tonight as well, and the two things that stuck out the most to me in reference to our offense was, one, how many of our drives were killed by JPP or Osi.

Two, Greg Olsen is the worse blocking TE that I've possibly seen in my life. His blocking was single handedly the reason why 3 of our first half drives stalled.

Chuds play calling didn't help, because at this point you should know your players strength and weaknesses, and asking Olsen to block a DE is just crazy.

JPP earned his money on Thursday. I think he had 3 batted balls, and disrupted all night.

Regarding Olsen, he tries, but he's just not a great blocker. Neither is Barnidge (actually, he's worse). The problem is, Chud wants to have 3 to 5 receiving options on the field damn near every play, so playing Hartsock or Brockel more is not an option. And yes, TE and WR (especially Murphy) blocking has had a big impact on the success of both our running and passing game.

Peppers against the Vikings in '09 was the last time I seen a DE take over a game the way JPP did Thursday night. Man I wish we had a player like that on our team. LOL....... That guys is a straight baller.

I also blame Chud for Cams 2nd INT. There's no play in the playbook that's going to get you 22yards, and not only did Chud ask Cam to convert a 3rd & 22, but he asked him to do it with an empty backfield, against possibly the best pass rushing team in the league.

That's the part that many miss when they see 3 interceptions. It's like the last one, we're 4th and goal, down by a gazillion, nobody is open, but Cam tries to force it in there and gets picked. Well, what the hell do you expect him to do? A Jimmy Clausen throw away into the bench? A kneel down? Of course he's going to try to force it in there. We would be pissed if he didn't.

You're absolutely right!

Another thing I would like to point out is, Cam was right, the Giants did nothing special at all, scheme wise, to stop the Read Option, they just have the horses up front that could individually blow it up.

It truly did come down to execution, although I think Cam was overwhelmed with Osi's speed and JPP's power and range at times, hence his hesitation when reading them.

Also... I wouldn't be shocked one bit to learn Gatorade pays Cam to wear the towel.

I don't recall Smitty saying anything about the towel. His only point was that when Cam was taken out he should have been watching the game instead of sitting on the bench.

That's a good point. He often seems distant from the team, I'm not a Rivera hater but I would like to see him more engaged during the game.

Appreciate the perspective and the write up. THanks for taking the time to post this for those of us who have TWC.

Pretty much our o-line got dominated by their d-line. This is the matchup that most people thought would decide the game. If our offense could have hung in there and matched the Giants with some points of their own, we probably wouldn't have given up 36 points. Our defense is only going to be effective if our offense can stay on the field. Otherwise they are going to give up HUGE numbers and they did.

Atlanta has a pretty good D-line (though not quite as good as the Giants) and a fantastic o-line, so we can learn from our mistakes and hopefully have a better game plan vs Atlanta. That said, it is going to be nearly impossible for us to get pressure of Matt Ryan so our offense is going to need to be good for 35+ points. Maybe RR can motivate this team, but I'm afraid I'm losing confidence in him.

I'm not quite ready to say he isn't the answer at HC, but it seems to me, based on what I have read about the game, that the players may be losing confidence in him as well.

Let me ask you a question. Last year against Minnesota, when Cam had just converted a 4th and 14 to Brandon LaFell for the first, and they were in the red zone, should Cam have jumped all over Smitty for his holding that killed the game winning drive?

Cam didn't do anything any different than Luke Kuechly or Jon Beason, both of whom were seen hanging their heads on the sideline.

Here's an idea...how about letting one of our coordinators, or one of our veteran players show up for the post game press conference, and see how chipper they are.

Cam is a 23 year old kid that is expected to carry a not very good team. There are going to be rough spots.

What I noticed on this site is Smitty can do no wrong even when he's wrong. But Cam cannot do no right, even when he's right. In all honesty, I sat on Thursday night andsaw two different teams. One team carry their QB and play like seasoned Vets. The other led by a temper tantrum throw Captain who seem to believe everything should rest on the shoulders of his 23 year old rookie QB.

IMO, Steve's behavior towards Cam reflects the real maturityor lack there of the Panthers but it's clear who the media and fans rather focus their criticism on. The vibe I gathered from watching the game was, this team really isn't as ready maturity wise as they want to believe they are. When you place every game on the shoulders of your rookie QB, it speaks volumes of how lacking you are as a team. Cam's role is to help the Panthers as a QB,not be the Panthers.

Gaints gave Eli room to grow into his role as a Pro QB and eventual leader. He still ebbs and flows like crazy with his games despite taking the team too and winning two SB championship his 8 years as a QB. He's far from perfect as a QB but his team mates seem to be always there to rescue him. It's clear to see that he can depend on them when he's not having a good night. The Gaints play with pride, not arrogance.

Not so with Cam and the Panthers. The Panthers and fans seem hell bent on ignoring the pink elephant on their team by putting all responsibilities and faults of a team on the shoulders of every QB they get. Cam did not seem to play relaxed at all on Thursday. He seems very rushed as if every throw and pass has to count. He plays like he's under a microscope and his every action is being scrutinized, which means he will make more mistakes than necessary.

Unlike Eli, Cam does not seem appreciated by this team. You can see the disconnect of the plays. There is no rhythm and flow between QB and receivers and as usual all eyes go to Cam when anything goes array. IMO, the Gaints and the Panthers game was a picture of two teams and how they operate like a team. The Giants players know their role and step up to help their QB. The Panthers players sometimes seems lost and expect the QB to always have the answer.

Cam's flaws are going to be more obvious because he's under a much hotter microscope. He's clear not placed in the same light as say a Luck or Stanford and will not receive the same pass like them by the media when his game goes South. He's also not surround by players who can bail him out of trouble and his failures will be strongly magnified by the media just as much or even more than his successes. This is where his team is suppose to step in and protect him but it's obvious the captains and vets on the Panthers are to busy pouting and looking out for their own image with the media. There is clearly a lot of 'I" on the Panther team.

Maybe Smitty could take some of his own advise and grow to fug up.since he's like 13 years older than Cam. He has caused the team some serious yardages with his dumb ass immature behavior on the field. But let's continue to pretend it's all on Cam.
