Carolina-Chuck 2013 Mock Draft 3.0

There's a couple of FAs I'd like the FO to take a look at this offseason(hopefully we have a GM who's willing to sign some good players) like sean smith CB dolphins and Randy Starks DT dolphins. There both solid players, seeing as we can't completely build through the draft we need to start trying to fill holes through FA

Yes! Sean Smith would be a solid pick up. I wanted him so badly, but Hurney was too bright to take Sherrod Martin over Smith. Smith would be a great compliment to Gamble and play Norman as a nickle.

But if we can land Antoine Cason, Id take him over Smith. FA is a major priority next year with the draft if JR and whoever the GM is plans on being competitive.

If were somehow picking in the teens...then I'd love kawann short from purdue....just a straight up playmaker

Picking in the teens, Id probably look for John Jenkins over Short. Short is more of a pass rusher than a run stuffer. We need to stop the run to be competitive. I cant stand watching us year after year getting pound by the running game.

You made good point about Star's stamina late in the game, but that happens to almost every single d lineman. You gotta remember that Star is the only "star" player on that Utah D. Brockers had a ton of NFL prospects playing beside him and for Cox, hes in the SEC. SEC is full of players unlike a team like Utah. Right now its pretty much a toss up between Star and Hankins. Jenkins from UGA isnt really on the same level and is a different type of player than the two of them. Jenkins and Hankins both also has help on their team (i.e. jarvis jones and john simon) unlike Star who has nobody.

But just asking to make sure, were you seriously about not being impressed? An do you really think Brockers and Cox are better prospect than Star? What are you smoking?

Yes, fletcher cox was a much better prospect than Star. Mainly due to the difference in their pass rush ability. I dont see Star disengaging very well in the run game.. and he gets driven by the ball carrier far too frequently. I don't think Star is a top 15 pick at all based on that game tape.

I have no bias toward Star at all.. I havent seen him play until that video.. I just call it like I see it. Id be glad to watch more as the season unfolds and update my opinion.

Brockers was a better run stuffer than Star easily. Its night and day.

I don't see Haloti Ngata when I watch Star play.. they are both the same size and both Samoan, but he won't be the player Ngata is.

I guess people watches game differently. I have nothing against your opinion. But clearly Star is a better prospect than both Cox and Brockers. And a lot of people from scouts to coaches believes that also with me I would say. The comparison of Ngata didn't come from me. It came from experts, scouts and coaches so Im sure they saw something in him other than just his color and ethnicity.

Cox is more in the same form and player of a Kawaan Short. Both are not run stuffer but good rushers from the inside. Brockers now on the other hand is unique bc of his size and game. He's a run stuffer and has the ability to rush. But is very very raw.

Star is a more natural run stuffer who can rush a bit bc of his quickness and strength off the line. There's a reason why Star will be guarantee a top 10 pick next year compare to Cox and Brockers. I believe that at the end of their careers, Star will be the best out of Cox and Brockers.

I was pretty impressed by that video of Star. I LOVED how quick he fires off the snap. He seemed to be dominating whoever tried to block him until they started putting 2 on him and holding him a lot, I saw a lot of uncalled holds there. On one play in particular the blocker grabbed stars jersey and fell back with him, pulling him down lol. He obviously doesn't have a super great motor, seemed to gear down when the play went away from him, and seemed to get washed down by the blocking occasionally, but I liked what I saw over all. The video of the OSU guy was not bad too, guy had nice violent hands and seemed good at shedding blockers and making tackles, but he didn't seem as physically dominant as Star. I'd be happy with either.

Yea that's exactly what I thought too. Star is more physical and has great quickness off the line but has trouble making plays away from him. Hankins on the other hand isn't as quick and physical off the snaps but seemed to has more speed to make plays and tackles away from him.

Either one is great. That's what we need anyway. Someone that is capable of stuffing the run, impact the line, and create double team so CJ and whoever from the outside gets better one on one match up.

IMO, the best analogy of Star vs Hankins is Dareus vs Fairley. Not saying either will be as good or bad as Dareus or Fairley, but they seem to have parallel skill sets. I preferred Dareus then (by a lot) and prefer Star now (by a little). Obviously, it's still early though.

I thought Star looked like a Top10 pick in the 1st quarter of the game, but he tends to get less dominant as he gets tired. I guess that is my biggest issue with him. He was firing off the ball extremely fast for a big man.. and that must be what scouts see. If they can get his stamina up, I think he is well worth the Top10 pick. The thing that 'to me' that made Fletcher Cox the better prospect, is the motor that Cox possesses.. he was playing at that level for 4 quarters.
