The fact that he stopped was because if he didn't he was going to be out of a job just like Fox for his poor performance. JR set goals that Fox nor Hurney met and that's why both got fired. Not because of some half baked scheme.

I don't think there's a conspiracy, but I do think that JR is and has been much more involved with the management of the team than he puts across in public. There have been free agents available who would have helped this team in the past few years that we once would have gone after, even during the Hurney years.

It seems like there are a lot of folks who just want to assume that a guy who lasted a decade at the top of his profession is incompetent. But no one at that level puts all their cards on the table and runs a completely transparent organization. To me, it makes more sense that the reason he stopped going after "name" free agents is because he was told to.

Or just maybe he did that so he could say they needed to develop. When you bring in higher priced FAs you put a time clock on your Job. With young players and coaches you have more time.
