Panthersguru's Mock offseason

GM: Marc Ross

Head Coach: Ron Rivera

Offensive Coordinator: Rob Chudzinsky

Defensive Coordinator: Sean Mcdermott

I know a lot of you would not say that this is the "sexy" pick but I personally think continuity is underrated and that continuity is going to be a good thing for this young team and especially for our young quarterback, who by the way is playing quite well now that the coaching staff has been straightened out.

Panthers Offseason Needs:

LT, RG, WR, DT, S, CB

Panthers Free Agency:

Cut: Ron Edwards, Haruki Nakamura,

Restructure: Jon Beason, Charles Godfrey, Jordan Gross, Chris Gamble, and Deangelo Williams.

Sign:

Glen Dorsey- Could be the cheapest DT that we could plug and play and have similar defensive success next year.

Mike Jenkins- He isnt being used to his full potential in Dallas due to them having two good cover corners and he could come in here and almost immediately start across from Chris Gamble. Even if he didnt start immediately he would be great as a rotational guy.

Captain Munnerlyn

This team has proven that they can compete at the highest level with their team in tact as is. So gettiing two mid level free agents for cheap may be just what they need to keep this team going in the right direction.

1st Round: OG Chance Wharmack Alabama- Right now rated as the #6 player in the country and could definitely fall to us at 14. If this happens then he definitely could pull the trigger and we could begin to build our line from the inside somewhat similarly to what New Orleans has done, and has had obvious success.

2nd Round: WR Justin Hunter Tennessee: Once considered a top ten pick, but because of his lackluster season he could potentially drop to the second. He has all of the physical tools to be a #1 receiver so if he is available then we should see a panthers representative run to the podium to make that selection.

4th Round: FS Zeke Motta Notre Dame:This is an obvious position of need and Motta may be the best safety available at this position and could challenge for a starting spot and at worst could be a good part of our rotation.

5th Round: Marquis Wilson- Once considered a 2nd round pick would be the definite best player available. He may get flagged for character concerns but he does not have character concerns he quit because of the coaching situation. If he and Hunter both pan out then we could end up with the best receiving corps in the NFL in two years.

6th Round: Montori Hughes- A developmental prospect with great potential for the future. We dont have a NT for the future but if this guy develops into what he could be then we could have a run stuffer of the future for a really cheap price.

UDFA:

Ray Ray Armstrong SS Faulkner

Potential Starting Offensive Lineup:

LT JORDAN GROSS

LG AMINI SILATOLU

C RYAN KALIL

RG CHANCE WARMACK

RT BYRON BELL

QB CAM NEWTON

FB MIKE TOLBERT

RB JONATHON STEWART/ DEANGELO WILLIAMS

WR STEVE SMITH/JUSTIN HUNTER

WR BRANDON LAFELL/MARQUIS WILSON

TE GREG OLSEN

Potential Starting Defensive Lineup

RDE CHARLES JOHNSON

UT DWON EDWARDS/ ANDRE NEBLETT

NT GLEN DORSEY/SIONE FUA

LDE GREG HARDY/FRANK ALEXANDER

OLB JAMES ANDERSON/ JASON PHILLIPS

MLB LUKE KUECHLY/ JON BEASON

OLB JON BEASON/ THOMAS DAVIS

CB CHRIS GAMBLE/JOSH THOMAS

FS DJ CAMPBELL/ ZEKE MOTTA

SS CHARLES GODFREY/ Rat Ray Armstrong

CB MIKE JENKINS/JOSH NORMAN

After reading everyones opinion I have decided that this is the best way for the offseason to play out based on needs, both immediate and longterm.

I dont like any OLINE in the 1st. I really believe we could go better with a veteran presence there through FA.

If we really really want a young future LT, I'd wait and trade up into the 3rd if Brennan Williams is there. He's a 1st round talent who's physically gifted that may fall into the 3rd or even 4th bc of injuries.

Henry Melton would also be my first choice at DT ahead of Dorsey.

The only reason I chose Dorsey is because Melton will demand more money and were broke.

    • Outside of cerrato, I do like our draft overall. Hard to get can't miss draft picks when you pick late in the draft
    • Very True--and I am a former HS English teacher.
    • Not a Moore fan-but he had a few good games last year-but I want players that scare you--Renfrow's route running and intelligence, Legette's size, speed, and strength, AT's intelligence and route running, Coker's body control, strong hands, and abilty to win contested catches, and TMac's size, body control, and ability to find soft spots in zone coverages.  Horn gives them the ability to stretch the field and he plays special teams.   Moore has a nice smile and can dance.  He filled in well last season, but to get better as a team, you have to upgrade your players.  I think Moore is a bottom of the roster guy who got bumped when we drafted 2 WRs and signed a legit free agent.  Here is the thing--TMac makes us better because he is great against the zone--man?  Good luck with that.  AT's role can be reduced, and that is probably a good thing.  He can specialize in situational football. Coker?  Just getting started. XL?  Just getting started.  Drafting TMac was probably a bit of a wake up call, but XL will be better as the 2. Renfrow?  I see him splitting reps with AT--keeping both fresh and giving different looks. Horn?  Watch the safety cheat his side when he is in the game--I see a young Steve Smith type in him, but he has yet to play a game.  I hear that Morgan loves him.
