Negotiations have already begun with Brown..

I agree, he had enough hype around him, and the contents of our trade are well known so they have a lot of leverage, but hopefully it will still be done quickly

Using that logic would mean that Mike Goodson is going to get paid too since he has 1st round leverage. The trade was for a 1st next year for a 2nd and 4th.

Brown will most likely command a salary near 900k a year

Yeah, Beason did, but not for long. Once he came in playing like a Beast, everybody pretty much forgot about it. Stewart was close, but he got signed. Since that is kindova rep on the Panthers, (waiting 'till the last second), I don't read anything into it.

He'll probably get similar money to what Philip Merling got last year when he was taken at the very top of round 2 by the Dolphins. He too was considered a potential first rounder who took a tumble.

7/25/2008: Signed a four-year, $7.455 million contract. The deal contains $5.36 million guaranteed, including a $1.66 million signing bonus and $1.2 million roster bonuses in years two through four. 2009: $500,000, 2010: $600,000, 2011: $700,000, 2012: Free Agent

what is everyones opinion about rookie salary caps? is it the general opinion that a rookie salary cap would prevent hold outs?

There is already a "rookie pool" which is like a loose cap, it wouldn't change anything.

People need to stop looking at players as if they're assholes for holding out as rookies, a lot of the time it has little to do with the money they're being paid, just how they're being paid it and length of the contract. Most of the time they're legitimate issues.

Brown likely won't have any of those things since it's going to be a 4 year deal and he's going to take second round money. He's not going to be demanding Vernon Gholston type rookie bucks, he's a mid second rounder, Merling type money (above) is what he's worth and it's what he'll sign for.

Brown comes across as a player who wants to come in and earn his spot.

I don't think there is even a threat of him not being there at the beginning of TC.

His first contract in the NFL isn't going to be the one that makes him the most money anyways.

    • Damn Logan Jones had a good day too. Was high on him coming in as he anchored that top Iowa line and is a fire plug inside. He's gonna be 25 to start the season so maybe he slips into the 4th but I doubt it, even if C isn't a premium position. His play on the field was top notch and the combine boosted it again. Arm length is about the only knock. But guy is plug and play at C.   This is a loaded class at C. Need to grab one.
    • Bryce will be permanently replaced by a draft pick. There's not another Sam Darnold out there to save us. Tepper is going to see this throw because he dumped Mayfield and Darnold too soon. He's going to give it 1 more year before he will sign off on dumping another 1st round pick qb. Thats the cold hard truth of it. It doesn't mean we can't get younger and much better at the backup position.
    • Maybe I should have used a different word and saved that for me. I want someone that has something impressive about them.  Someone that has potential to supplant a guy who is producing 25th best type of numbers. 22nd, 27th all that bottom third neighborhood.  I don’t know where that will come from it just can’t be from even a 4th round pick this year IMO. Unless FA is crazy productive.    I’ll give Bryce a better than bottom rating for his playoff game. Well above low twenties. But at least half of his games were bottom third level. Probably 2/3 to 3/4 of them were.
