Morgan Retires Again

Scott Shanle has been solid for us since 2006, I don't see a problem with him. Not to mention the other young guys who'll be fighting for that spot in TC.

The people who were counting on this guy were delusional.

How did they ignore it?

They hired a new defensive coordinator(Gregg Willliams)

Signed a new CB-Jabari Greer

Signed a new safety-Darren Sharper

Drafted Malcolm Jenkins CB/S

Signed Paul Spicer DE

Drafted Chip Vaughn & Stanley Arnoux

The defensive philosophy is totally different under Williams, he wants a fast, versatile, pressure defense. Our secondary is totally re-vamped with Greer/Porter/Jenkins/Gay being our CBs and Harper/Sharper/Jenkins as our safeties. Not to mention Sedrick Ellis will have a year under his belt along with the other DT from last year's draft Demarrio Pressley coming back from injury. Yeah, nothing has changed.

This defense has me giddy.

The only guy you added on defense thats worth a damn is Malcolm Jenkins and he was your 1st round pick. The rest are either average or on the brink of retirement. Your new DC should make the most impact on your defense but it also might not change anything at all.

Greer is a very solid CB, Buffalo fans didn't want to see him go. Sharper may be getting old but he still has great ball instincts which we lacked last year in the secondary. Porter was very solid for a rookie last year and he will be coming back, and Gay did a good job of filling in towards the end of the season. Chip Vaughn is an interesting guy who Williams is very high on, and Spicer should be a good fill in along wiht McCray while Grant and Smith are out.

We're only going to miss Smith, he's a very good DE when healthy and he played hurt all last year w/o complaining. That earned a ton of respect in my book. We won't miss much with Grant, he's ballooned to DT size and McCray is better than him anyhow. Wouldn't surprise me to see McCray start even when Grant is back. Spicer has been a 'constant' for Jacksonville for years, I think he will do well. Anthony Hargrove was also signed a few weeks back, he'll be someone to watch during TC as he is known for his pass rushing skills.

I encourage you to read the story I linked above, a new Dc can change everything.

    • The panthers are such a trash organization at this point that all the huddle can do is argue about which panthers team is historically the worst…good times.
    • Well, hope they're not worried about a torn Labrum or Rotator Cuff, as someone who went through that myself, I know those don't have anything show up on X-Rays but from the MRI, so this is kinda a nothing update, hope it's not a tear or his season is already over if they decide to do surgery now. Which is basically what would be needed to get him to 100% for the start of next season's training camp if it's a labrum.  If he plays the season with it and then does surgery, he's not going to be ready for camp and probably not the start of the season either.
    • I always try to not pay much attention to a team’s preseason win/loss record. The 1982 Washington and 2021 LA Rams both lost every game in the preseason and went on to win the Super Bowl, whereas the 2008 Detroit Lions and 2017 Cleveland Browns both won every game in reason and went on to lose every regular season game. There’s many examples of teams that lose in preseason that go on to have good seasons, but equally there are teams that lose in preseason and that continues in the regular season. Which will we be?  I think our floor is a handful of wins, while our ceiling will probably be around the 9-10 win mark. The latter will require significant improvement from the whole team and coaching staff, and will also need Bryce to play like the QB we drafted him to be. I want to be optimistic and predict a winning season, but it’s really difficult as a Panthers fan!
