there's gotta be a few auto technophiles here. figured i'd ask anyone if they had experience with this.

my blower motor switch keeps burning up, and i figure that's the resistor/relay, which are going to be replaced. those two parts are pretty cheap. but the fuging switch itself is 90$ unless i go to pullapart and get a used one for like 3$ which is an option, but i'd have to drive without a heater the next couple days until i could make the time for the trip

my other option is to rewire a 4 position toggle and harness for around 30$. anyone ever modded their control panel in this way that can give me some pointers?

help me huddle, you're my only hope!

its the relay/blower resistor that's causing it to burn up, because the switch will only operate in the 4 position. i figured it was a wiring issue for a long time, but now my research points towards the relay/resistor

its a 1990 toyota corolla

i'm thinking of just getting a generic 12v 4 position switch and harness and rewiring it and replacing the relay and resistor

that's because the blower only works on high because the relay is probably shot, and i have to run it on high constantly. also my thermostat is shot. poor little beater.

On high speed the resistor is essentially bypassed. Straight 12 volts to the blower motor.

Again my guess would be enough resistance in the blower motor due to age and wear to burn the resistors in the resistor pack but not enough to blow the blower motor fuse itself ie dead short.

A quick google found a really crude diagram of a typical old style blower circuit.

yeah i'm gonna have to replace the relay and the resistor, but i'm trying to find a way to rig another style of switch to it. i've already replaced one switch.

right now i've got a fuging bearing stuck in my steering knuckle, so my car is gonna be up on blocks for a couple days anyway.
