And yet Baltimore won, even though they had an inferior, aging defense. They were absolutely killing the 49ers, so the fact that San Fran was close is not a moral victory. The team with more weapons on offense, including a WR corp with not one, but three legitimate threats at WR, plus a couple of decent TEs to boot got the rings. Moreover, we all know that it would be prudent for San Fran to add another young receiving talent to the mix, That being said, let's not forge that they picked up Super Mario last season. He could have easily made the difference between them winning and losing the Super Bowl (as he did last year).

I don't think it matters a whole lot if the additional receiving threat is a WR or TE, RB is a different story, but I do know that our offense was much more effective when we had Shockey along with the others in 2011 and offensive numbers reflect that.

Also, eventually we'll have to replace Smitty, so we might as well start grooming one sooner rather than later.

That's why I'm of the opinion that we should bring in a solid #2 TE, like Dustin Keller or Brandon Myers, and draft a WR to develop into a potential #1.

Our defense was ranked higher than B-More's also, as were a lot of other teams' (as was the case with offense also). And yet the Ravens are the champions.

The reason their offense took off was they tweak their Oline and changed OC's on their coaching staff.

We have already done 1 of those things.

I have already stated my opinion that we have a lot of young WR 's on the roster that we don't know what they can fully offer yet. Our problems on the offense had to deal with more of a disconnet between the coaching staff and the roster and a bad oline. More then the skill position being without talent. I do agree we need to find 89 replacements I just don't want to reach for a flawed prospect. I honestly think Hunter and Hopkins have a better chance of being Smith's replacement then Patterson does.
