Game 24: Carolina Hurricanes (13-9-1) vs. New Jersey Devils (11-8-5)

Recommended Posts

Tonight the Canes are at home as they take on the New Jersey Devils in what will be the halfway point of the season for the Canes. The Canes are still leading the South East Division with a slim two point margin over the Winnipeg Jets. A win tonight would be huge as the Canes look to get back on track after another lackluster performance against what looks to be their kryptonite (the Montreal Canadians).

The good news for the Canes is that they are the healthiest they have been in a long time with a lot of guys returning tonight. Tim Brent, Riley Nash, and Dan Ellis are all returning to the line-up as where Checkers call-up Chris Terry will make his NHL debut. In other injury news, Joni Pitkanen skated today and it is said that Tuomo Ruutu could begin skating again as soon as March 15th.

The line-up's are as follows...

Jiri Tlusty - Eric Staal - Alexander Semin

Jeff Skinner - Jordan Staal - Jussi Jokinen

Chris Terry - Riley Nash - Patrick Dwyer

Drayson Bowman - Tim Brent - Tim Wallace

Jay Harrison - Justin Faulk

Tim Gleason - Joe Corvo

Bobby Sanguinetti - Jamie McBain

Dan Ellis

Justin Peters

Inactive: Kevin Westgarth

Injured: Joni Pitkanen (lower body), Chad LaRose (concussion), Tuomo Ruutu (hip), Cam Ward (MCL)

As far as the Devils are concerned, they will be playing without Marty Brodeur and Dainius Zubrusm and they could also be missing Henrik Tallinder.

News and Notes

  • Chris Terry is making his NHL debut tonight for the Canes
  • The Canes will be dawning camo warmups in honor of Military Appreciation Night
  • This is the first time in 69 games that Cam Ward and Marty Brodeur are not the starting goaltenders when the Canes and Devils face off

Side Note: I will be at the game tonight (Sec104), so I won't be chatting with you guys tonight.

Go CANES!!!

    • Backup QB has been an issue of mine for a long time but not just for Bryce and Dalton. We have never really been able to develop QBs or build an offense around strengths. Dalton isn't going to move the needle one way or another. The problem is in our FO and possibly coaching staff (current staff undetermined as of yet). I'm of the belief that you always try to get better. Dalton wasn't good other than one game against an abysmal defense. Churn the roster, including backup QB. If BY isn't the guy we've got to start over anyway. Who knows. We might actually find someone good. Other teams have done it before.
    • Lol. Worst case? I think you mean most likely result. I don't think people are going to be wasting much breath on Dalton or QB2 if Bryce flounders this year. It's going to be people calling for coaches, GM's and owners heads for the mess we got ourselves in with Bryce in the first place. Rightfully so.
    • I mean that's his sole reason for being here. He doesn't win football games. He's here to keep Bryce comfortable.
