If you limit how much guaranteed money you give in a signing bonus and instead give roster or option bonuses instead, even if guaranteed, the cap hit for signing a player can be very small in year 1. we can sign Dwan by simply cutting a player or two even if we intend to sign them back down the road when we get cap relief from cutting James Anderson. Why all the angst as if we don't have a plan which we surely do.
