Fans pledge $2.5 million for 'Veronica Mars' movie in one day

I have to admit, while I remember this show being on the air, I never did watch it. However, it's pretty insane that a show that's been off the air since 2007 still has enough dedicated fans to draw $2.5 million in a single day for a movie to be made.

Article says it actually met the $2 million goal in 11 hours. There are people pledging hundreds - some thousands - to see this movie made. That's completely insane to me.

But looking at this, I can't help but to think about the precedent this will set if it actually works and goes on to be a success. How many great cult classic shows have been cancelled and never heard from again? This sort of thing could become relatively common. I'm sure the studio never dreamed they'd actually get the $2 million, much less in 11 hours.

I liked watching the show Veronica Mars. Always thought the writing was very well done.

Might just have to donate. Damn, the $10k speaking role is gone....nooooooooooooooo.

Wonder if Walking Dead could do a fundraiser for charity.....donate to be a zombie for a day......

$100 - slow walker on screen???

$200 - shovel death by Carol

$1k - crossbow by Daryl

$5k - zombie who kills the next main character.

With people coughing up this kind of dough for a tv show, it makes you wonder how bad the economy truly is...

    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
    • It is goofy how some people hate Bryce so much that they're flat out lying to try and remain entitled to their pessimism. It's insanity. Most fans are realists and eagerly awaiting the season to see if we get pre- or post-benching Bryce to start the season and how much he is able to do with some young and developing weapons. Many of us understand that these young guys are going to have growing pains on the job as well as the new defense, but the fans with all of the excuses for why Bryce can't be successful are pounding the no excuses drum. Personally, I'd prefer the Keep Pounding drum.
