In one very aggressive reach to take a lead in the eighth inning, in a game that had stood tied at 2 since the third inning, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly made the play. Adrian Gonzalez had led off the eighth with a five-pitch walk. He thus became their second baserunner since the third inning. Already, the Dodgers had done little against Cardinals starter Joe Kelly, or the two relievers who followed. Who knew if there would be another chance? "It's one of those," Mattingly said, "that you've got to shoot your bullet when you get a chance." So, with none out, with Yasiel Puig going to the plate, in a tied game on the road, against the best catcher in baseball, Mattingly sent Dee Gordon to first base. Gonzalez jogged to the bench, where he'd spend the next six innings, or until Beltran's final big moment. "If we don't use him there and the next guy hits a ball in the gap and he doesn't score," Mattingly said, "we're going to say, ‘Why didn't you use Dee?'"

 

This is why I despise the lineup Mattingly uses where he has Puig hitting behind Gonzales. It completely neutralizes one of Puig's best weapons, speed on the base paths. So many times this year Gonzo would be on and Puig would get a hit and would only be able to trot to first and not attack the defense like he wants to.

This mistake is made every day when Matttingly puts Puig in the 5 spot instead of leading off or even bat him second behind Crawford if he wants. Idiot moves made before the game even starts. Grrrrrrr.

 

 

 

A funny thing happened when Mattingly sent Dee Gordon to run for Gonzalez. Unwittingly, he'd sent Dee Gordon to run for Hanley Ramirez as well. He'd marginalized not simply the Dodgers' best hitter, but their two best hitters. Ramirez, who'd batted .500 in the division series, did not see another pitch for the remainder of the game. In a game that could have been decided on one pitch, neither Gonzalez nor Ramirez took another swing, so Mattingly could take his one shot.

 

See, Ramirez bats in front of Gonzalez, the left-handed hitter who'd batted .333 in the last series and hit 22 home runs and drove in 100 runs in the regular season. There is no gain, on many nights, to pitching around Ramirez. Gonzalez was on the bench, however, and at first base and in the cleanup spot – behind Ramirez – was Michael Young, the sturdy pro who had a mere 29 at-bats, including the division series, in a month.

Welp, looks like this series was over when the Cardinals took Hanley out in his first at bat.

Still waiting for a Dodger pitcher to retaliate and bean Beltran hard.

Clayton hasn't pitched too well tonight, but he's also not getting calls that have been strikes the entire series. Oh well not going to blame the Umps for the bats doing their disappearing act again.  I will be salty about Hanley being hurt though.  Would be a much different series with him at 100%....

Ramirez beaning was an intentional act in the 1st inning of the 1st game.

This is the same bullshyt that happened after the Padre blowup. Their player can run out to the mound and break Greinke's collar bone without repercussions.

 

This team came together after the Arizona beanings.

Not so this series.

 

Fug Mattingly, he's set a bad tone since Game 1.

He must go.

Clayton Kershaw, dominatse Cy Young voting like he dominated MLB hitters

 

Kershaw — 16-9 with a 1.83 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in 236 innings — earned 29 of 30 first-place votes. He's the 17th pitcher to win multiple Cy Youngs, with a 2011 award already to his name. Adam Wainwright of the St. Louis Cardinals and Jose Fernandez of the Miami Marlins finished second and third, respectively. Wainwright got the other first-place vote.Kershaw, 25, was truly dominant this season, getting compared to another Dodgers great, Sandy Koufax. Kershaw led all pitchers in ERA, ERA+, WHIP and WAR (according to Baseball Reference). He gave up only 164 hits in 236 innings, which is daunting on its own. But combine that with a 1.83 ERA and it's almost unfair. Kershaw's ERA was the lowest since Pedro Martinez's 1.74 in 2000. This is the third consecutive year that that Kershaw has led the NL in ERA and WHIP.

Plus fuging Mattingly is batting Puig behind the sloth Gonzales again completely disarming one of his best assets on the base paths, speed.

And so it continues with this no class Cardinal organization.

Hanley Ramirez hit a SECOND time tonight and had to leave the game.

This after both benches had been warned as After Hanley was hit the 1st time Kershaw retaliated.

What did the Umpires do?

Nothing.

So this series the Cardinals removed both Yasiel Puig and Hanley Ramirez from the lineup with bean balls and MLB did nothing.

A full scale bean ball war is coming.
