Next to Last Mock Draft

Recommended Posts

1. Desmond Trufant CB

Panthers immediately get better in the secondary

2. Jesse Williams DT

First two picks shore up the defense

4. Xavier Nixon OT

I think he falls to the 4th due to inconsistency. Good feet make him an excellent addition

5. Connor Vernon WR

Good hands. Not going to be an all pro but will be dependable

6. Earl Wolf SS

Another addition to our young up and coming secondary

6 (Comp) Hugh Thorton, OG

Line Depth

I'm not for sure what we will do in the 1st. Nobody here can be.

My gut feeling is telling me we're going safety at 14 (Cyprien, Elam, Vaccaro). and then DT at 44. Remember, Rivera knew Safety was a big issue going into the 2012 season with all the news that Rivera had Barron ranked higher than Luke.

Godfrey is probably staying at FS, and he should. But, I I think we all could believe that Chico is not going into 2013 with DJ Campbell as the SS. The Mitchell guy is probably a camp body only. Safety is def the bigger need, not CB.

I don't have a problem with it and I'd be surprised if we took S in the first two days.

Godfrey will be the starting FS, there are already a lot of bodies set to battle for the strong spot.

I want DT/WR in the first two rounds.

That's exactly what I want too (DT/WR). But I'm really thinking we're going Safety(1)/DT(2) and a WR like Dobson or Mellette in the 4th.

I'm not sure why some are thinking we'll go CB. Thats basically the only position we address in FA. An aging Drayton can still be a no.2. Norman or Thomas will start the other side, Captain at nickle, and DJ/Dockery will fill the rest. We're not taking a CB in the first two rounds

    • There probably isn’t an orthopedic surgery that has had more improvement in technique and outcomes over the last two decades than the acl repair. Because of its importance in pro sports and the sheer number that surgeons do there have been lots of opportunities to practice 1. Better techniques - arthroscopic v open surgery means people heal faster  2. More training - all sports med surgeons have tons of experience doing them 3. better imaging - later generations of mri are more sensitive  4. better therapy - PTs have gotten better at rehabbing them and the theories of rehab have improved a lot. No idea about brooks in particular tho, but I’d describe that overall situation as “not great”
    • If Freeling or either of the Utah OTs dropped to 19 I'd be more than happy honestly. Our OT situation isn't great with an aging Moton at RT and a mess of a situation at LT if Walker goes down at any point in time.  What I'm expecting the Panthers to do is probably draft another weapon like Sadiq or KC Conception. That's been their track record in drafting R1 thus far. None of the defensive talent projected to be around 19 stands out to me. Unless they just want to draft a LB early (Rodriguez,  CJ Allen, Anthony Hill, Jake Gollday).
