Cam Newton NFL Top 100 #46

I didnt get to watch it but i just heard about it and i am not surprised at all. The blatant disrespect has been going on a while. I have been saying this, i wish people would stop falling for the so called constructive criticism thats always being giving to us because that is definitely not the case. Nobody respects or likes  this team period and have no problem letting us know out in the open. fug these other teams, analysts, and networks. They can all kick rocks.

I honestly don't have a problem with what Bailey said. Cam does need to work on the mental more than the physical aspects of being an NFL QB. However... If this is supposed to be a show that celebrates players accomplishments then NFL Network missed the memo on this one.

that's the whole point. This is a show celebrating the players. Everyone has heard all of that negative stuff, why not have more players talk about the good things he did? it was just completely ridiculous and a major bummer.

Champ Bailey said he wasn't impressed with Cam and just talked about the mental part of being a QB. He did say he has all the potential in the world and Cam is how you'd want your QB to look.

Thanks!

Sounds like he's quoting from the "How to bash, comment on Cam playbook". Lol

Mind you, Newton did have one of his worst games against Denver. So I guess he's got some reason to feel that way, though every QB has bad games, especially young ones.

Nonetheless (as some of you guys are saying), it's classless to make a comment like that on a/the top 100 show.

I'm assuming it was said after, and not during/a part of Cam's profile and ranking?

I guess in a way, you gotta let it roll off your sleeves. Cause Cam was ranked 46 (though I'm sure if they're any other younger QB's ranked higher it will rankle us) on the list, which is probably one of the reasons Bailey was pissed to begin with.

I agree. That was totally out of place (based off what I'm hearing).

The other thing is: How often does Champ Bailey actually watch Cam Newton (along with the usual professional protocol and decorum when discussing other NFL players)?

Nope, they spent the first 30 seconds or so talking about his shoes. Then made a vague reference to him having a quick release.  The ENTIRE rest of the spot (maybe another minute and a half) was Champ explaining how he wasn't any good and is unimpressive.

It's not even about Champ. Champs bit should never have been shown. You are telling me they couldn't get Beason or someone else to talk about Cam? I know i shouldn't get this mad because its NFL network, but honestly this was more shocking than anything else i have read or heard. Because it is a fuging honor to be on that list, but they just bashed him. Made no fuging sense.

I know. And this will only feed the frothing, ravenous haters and trolls. So my guess is, the NFL Network wanted controversy and eyeballs on their website tonight and tomorrow morning.

Let's face it. No mater how disingenuous; it's a business. And at the moment, many in media, like to portray Cam as the bad guy vs You Know Who/Whom Good Guy/s routine. But this is even slimy for them.

It's all good. That's why I usually try to stay away from this stuff, when I've had enough. Obviously, reading the Huddle--when it's posted, brings it all back (even if I ignore, don't read or view many of these 'salacious' Anti-Cam-like segments) doesn't help. Lol.

Staying away from Cam in the media,  keeps  you sane; though I know many of us--want to know what's going on, being sad as well.

Thats the thing too. There were obviously plenty of players that like him enough to rank him at 46. They couldn't have shown any one of the fair share of players that voted him high. Just dumb and uncalled for.

They did start with Gerald McCoy, Will Smith (I think), and Von Miller talking about how hard he was to bring down.  It started off with some praising.  Also a few players around the league that we played last year talking about how big he was, and they all seemed to be shocked to see how big he was in person.

But after that from what I got it was a BIG shot at Cam.  From Champs comments, to the REF incident and just how the whole segment went.  It was a little upsetting.

Richard Sherman (disrespectful trash talking PED user), gets all these praises for cheating.......  SHM

If Cam got as worked up about the media as the average huddler, the guy would be a complete emotional wreck. He gets a lot of flack but he's been through plenty of adversity and played through it all successfully.

    • We're in alignment regarding Thielen not being a game changer/breaker for the Panthers. Getting the ball into hands of playmakers like TMac and XL is going to open up things more than it is getting it to Thielen underneath (or letting him go after 50/50 balls 20yds downfield in his mid-30s). However, in a room where the other guys are two second year guys and two rookies, having a reliable vet that they can learn from is just as important as it is for the QB to have as a reliable third option. I can see that being worth $8.5M (just 3%) of the $279.2M cap... especially when looking at what's left out there: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/_/position/wr However, the idea that the team is forcing production to Thielen and leading to losses isn't supported by the data. Targets, not receiving yards, are how you can tell if a player is being "force fed." In the two games mentioned, let's look at the other players available... vs. TB 10 targets - Adam Thielen 9 targets - David Moore 8 targets - Tommy Tremble, Xavier Legette 3 targets - Jonathon Brooks 1 target - Dan Chisena, Feleipe Franks, Stephen Sullivan vs. PHI 11 targets - Adam Thielen 8 targets - Xavier Legette 5 targets - Chuba Hubbard, David Moore 2 targets - Tommy Tremble 1 target - Ja'Tavion Sanders, Deven Thompkins There isn't exactly a bounty of other names to throw the ball to. In those games, AT was one of the top 2 WRs. Diontae had been gone by that point.   So... yea. Agreed that Thielen isn't exactly carrying the team in his mid-30s, but it's undeniable that he was the most reliable target last season that still has quite a bit of value this season. Whether or not that value is reflected in a manner folks think on the contract is going to come down to personal taste. However, the idea that the team was forcing production to AT and that was the reason behind some losses couldn't be further from the truth.
    • I would also add that I think it's more than money.  AT has looked absolutely miserable out there at times, and there was a lot of speculation he would demand to be traded.  Personally, I thought he was a lock to be moved last year.  Maybe his hamstring is the only thing that prevents that from happening. The fact that he's not only willing to come back and play, but excited about it, really bodes well for Bryce.  AT is a veteran and he knows the game.  If he didn't have confidence in Bryce, I guarantee you he wouldn't be in a Panther uniform this year.  I'll take that as a positive.
