I honestly think they should be higher. Guess it'll take this year to prove how good they can be with actual interior lineman.

I think it is fair.  Johnson did not statistically have that great of a year last year, and Hardy is still up and coming and has not shown us all he can do yet (we hope).

bruce irvin is higher than hardy and cj?

chris long before allen and peppers?

the fug

Irvin is a second string player,  8 sacks for a second string is rahter impressive.

He may not be better but at least as good as CJ & Hardy.

Based on numbers, Clay Matthews is vastly overrated. Charles Johnson's statistics should place him in the top 5.

Here are the total sacks and forced fumbles of the top 15 in the past 2 years

Von Miller                 - 30 - 8
Clay Matthews          - 19 - 4
Cameron Wake        - 23.5 - 3
Terrell Suggs           - 16 - 7
Demarcus Ware       - 31 7
Aldon Smith              - 33.5 - 5
Jason Pierre Paul     - 23 - 3

Chris Long                - 24.5 - 1
Jared Allen                - 34 - 5
Julius Peppers          - 22.5 - 4
Mario Williams           -15.5 - 5

Bruce Irvin                 - 8 - 1
Lamarr Woodley        - 13 - 1
Charles Johnson       - 21.0 - 8
Chandler Jones         - 6 - 3

this is a list of the top edge-rushers, not top pass-rushers. bruce irvin is a one dimensional speed rusher. i don't believe he can play the run.

Nice stats but without the time spent on the field or the number of plays those stats are worthless.

Irvin played only 1 season as a second string LB/DE.

Irvin playing 1 season as 2nd string has nothing to do with the statistics of the other 14 on the list.

    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
