Manga/Anime latest and greatest

Doc Holiday

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen this talked about in a while and was just thinking it would be a good thing to get going so I can maybe find some new things to read or watch, because while I have read plenty of good manga's I've hardly seen a good anime in some time.

So any Anime recommendations would be appreciated!

Here's my top 5 Manga/Manhwa right now

1, Sidonia no Kishi(Knights of Sidonia)

It's the latest and possibly greatest thing yet from Tsutomu Nihei, the guy that wrote Blame! and Biomega(both also well worth the read).  He's probably the best thing going in manga right now, his grand scale future dystopia has been fascinating stuff, this one unlike the others is getting turned into a Anime and I cant wait, truly great stuff.

2, Tower of God,

It's a Manhwa(Korean webcomic), It's a bit hard to explain without reading but it's plot isnt too deep, it's about a set of characters that try and climb a tower(that each floor is the size of north america), which at reaching the top they will be granted what ever it is that they desire.  It's best part though is that it has great character development and is fairly entertaining, overall very good.

3, Gantz

It's about a high school boy who dies and is brought back to life and play in these games to hunt aliens on earth, eventually he discovers the real reason behind it all as the true threat arrives.  this scifi epic is fairly original in many ways, it's also nearing it's end which means its a good time to start reading. It's got your standard sex blood and violence so not for the kids.  there is also an Anime for this but it was low budget so not half as good as the manga

4, Deadman Wonderland

It's about a kid who's entire class is kill by "The Red Man" and everyone thinks he did it and ends up getting sent to this Jail that doubles as a amusement park called "Deadman Wonderland" where he is thrown into gladiatorial matches to the death(with strange powers), it is written by Jinsei Kataoka and illistrated by Kazuma Kondou (Eureka Seven)

5, Shingeki no Kyojin(Attack on Titan)

This one takes place in the far off future where all humans must live behind these 50 meter tall walls that are needed to keep the Titans out, which are creatures that eat humans and vary in size but usually are no taller then 30 meters.  After 200 years a Giant Titan breaks a whole in this wall and the story picks up from there, it's also been turned into a Anime called Attack on Titan viewable on Crunchyroll.com

Naruto

Bleach

Fairy Tale

Greatest Disciple Kenchi

I try and catch:

Area D

When I see them.

DIdn't like the art to much in Attack on Titan, I will give it a second chance tho.

I guess I like Titan because its different, bleach, Naruto and Fairy Tail are all good and fairly light hearted but also extremely predictable with and over drawn out(bleach is very bad at that).

Another one is Nobelesse it's ranked 11th on mangahere.com it's another manhwa that's rather good.

I've started to like the manhwa's because they are usually in color, and there is more emphasis on the characters.

I like Ubel Blatt when it was coming out regularly but it's been off more the on the last two years and I've gotten tired of that

Attack on Titan so good. the art starts off rough but it gets smoother later on. The anime is beautifully done and you can tell they've spent money on making it look good. Kind of bummed I gotta wait a month per manga chapter now though :(

Yeah, it's nice that they did a good Job with the Anime, I think Gantz got a low budget because they thought it would only be late night and nich market because its so over the top in some ways(violence and sex), Gantz could have been awesome with a good budget like Titan.

I read 383 chapters of Gnatz for tat poo ending ?

:(

I enjoyed most of it right up until maybe the last 10 chapters, kinda really fizzled out but it's not completely over yet either, the final battle so far has been lame compared to some of the other ones in it.

I only care about the little kid at this point.

And hoping Tae dies.

    • Here’s a summary of the JJ and Luke podcast transcript. Opening / Bryce Young Fifth-Year Option     •    JJ: Breaking news — Panthers picked up Bryce Young’s fifth-year option at $25.9M, guaranteed, coming in 2027. Combined with his 2025 salary of ~$6M, that’s $31M over two years — called it a “no-brainer.”     •    Luke: Enthusiastic about the move. Highlighted Bryce’s improving TD/INT ratios (11/10 → 15/9 → 23/11) and the value of entering year three with Dave Canales. Noted $25M is a bargain relative to the $60M top of market. Luke’s Personal Update — Charlotte Christian Football     •    Luke: Working with Charlotte Christian school football program, which hired a new head coach. Coaches include Greg Olsen, Luke, and Greg’s dad Chris Olsen (a New Jersey State coaching Hall of Famer).     •    JJ: Jokingly quipped that Charlotte Christian’s coaching staff is “the world’s greatest” — a Fox analyst, a Hall of Famer, and the best Panthers RB ever — all coaching middle school football.     •    Luke: Praised Chris Olsen’s deep football knowledge spanning decades and his ability to connect with kids. Round 1, Pick 19 — Monroe Freeling, OT, Georgia     •    JJ: Panthers were on the clock and submitted their pick almost immediately — a sign of confidence and preparation. Freeling is 6’7”, 320 lbs, played in the SEC in a pro-style system.     •    Luke: Loved the pick. Emphasized you can never have too many quality offensive linemen. Noted Freeling’s size, athleticism, and arm length as key traits. Said the pick also reflects team’s philosophy of drafting great people, not just great players.     •    JJ: Noted reporter Darren Gantt compared Freeling favorably to Jordan Gross — bigger, heavier, and faster — as a potential franchise left tackle.     •    Luke: Pointed out that young players like Freeling still have physical development ahead of them, comparing the trajectory to Christian McCaffrey’s growth from age 20 onward. Round 2, Pick 49 — Lee Hunter, DT, Texas Tech     •    JJ: Panthers traded up from 51 to 49 (pick swap with Minnesota) to grab Hunter. Played audio from Panthers area scout Kaden McLuhan, who scouted Hunter.     •    Scout Kaden McLuhan (audio): Said Hunter’s size is immediately striking, and that everyone around him spoke glowingly about his character, energy, and love for the game.     •    Luke: Praised Hunter as a massive (6’3”, 320 lbs, ~34” arms) two-gap nose tackle who fits perfectly in the Evero defense. Compared his prospect profile to Akiem Hicks. Said having Derek Brown, Bobby Brown, Derrick Brown, Terson Wharton, and now Hunter creates varied body types that stress offensive linemen.     •    JJ: Noted Hunter ranked third among all prospects in run-stuff rate and sixth in interior pass-rush win rate — addressing a perception that he couldn’t rush the passer. Rounds 3–7 Highlights     •    Luke: Highlighted WR Brazle (3rd round, 6’4”, 437 speed, 1,000+ yards at Tennessee) as the vertical threat the offense needed. Also praised OL Sam Heck (5th round) as a technically sound player whose “short arms” caused him to fall but who has proven himself.     •    Luke: Mentioned CB Will Lee (6’1”, 33” arms) fits the Panthers’ DB prototype — big, long corners.     •    Luke: Praised S/LB hybrid Zaki Wheatley (5th round, 6’3”) as a big nickel similar to Trayvon Merek.     •    Luke: Excited about the linebacker competition between Devin Lloyd, Trevvin Wallace, and Claudin Cherless.     •    JJ: Noted Panthers had the #1 “steal/overreach” rating in the entire draft — drafting players lower than consensus big boards projected. Around the League     •    Luke: Admitted being “a little jealous” that the Miami Dolphins drafted LB Jacob Rodriguez (Luke’s favorite LB in the draft). Has personal connections to Miami’s coaching staff (Jeff Hafley, DC Shawn Dugen — a childhood teammate).     •    Luke: Also noted Miami’s selection of OT/G Kaden Proctor out of Alabama, who will likely move to guard. League Trends — Bigger Tight Ends / 12 & 13 Personnel     •    JJ: Observed the NFL saw its highest run rate in ~11 years (~52%) and a notable pivot toward big blocking tight ends in this draft.     •    Luke: Explained the cyclical nature of NFL offense/defense evolution — as defenses get smaller to match spread offenses, teams counter with bigger personnel (12/13 formations), which then forces defenses to get bigger at the nickel/“big nickel” spot. Called it an ongoing arms race.
    • Dan Vladar is their best player and that is going to be the difference in the series
    • Nothing about the Flyers scare me. They are a mid team that just barely made the playoffs.
