TV/Internet options...

The dish and the games and storms were a real concern for me until I discovered that a $70 antenna from best buy will pull in my local Fox station at a quality that rivals if not surpasses the signal I get from the dish.

We are at the end of our two year deal with DirecTv and I am putting together the pieces to cancel the sub as soon as the last episode of Breaking Bad airs. We are going to "cut the cord" completely and go with only Internet from TWC and then Roku, Apple TV, Netflix, Amazon, and Off the air for all of our TV.

dude... some old rabbit ears sound have done the same thing, assuming your tv has a digital tuner. If its less than, probably 8 years old, it does. no need to spend $70 on the same thing with a shiny plastic outer shell.

Radio, Bars, Friends, and other less legal ways to have this content.

And if I'm not mistaken, if you're in the Charlotte area they will be carried by one of the local channels.

Yep, have not had cable in 4 years. Have never missed a Panthers game. There is always a local station airing them.

1. Sign up for amazon prime.

2. Order this with free shipping http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000GIT002/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?qid=1372416974&sr=8-7&pi=SL75 this is the one we have and it's awesome.

3. Get a roku and add the amazon app so you can watch amazon prime free content. It's as good as Netflix but for 80 bucks a year plus all free 2 day shipping from amazon.

4. Enjoy

My link above will show you exactly what you ought to be able to receive with about any sort of antenna.

Heres an unbiased review of various antennas from the experts.

not to dis Zods suggestion - but its not a top of the line antenna - which may be fine for his location - but if you are in a fringe area youre going to want something better to pull in the weaker signals.

here are a couple of good antennas

a preamp will also help in what you can pull in

I get 2 channels in the Charlotte area without an outdoor antennae and reception is choppy.

With the outdoor antennae I posted I get around 10 channels in perfect HD

I am currently receiving 9 channels but have done research on this subject recently and should easily be able to pull in 15- 20 more - I just ordered one of these preamps, and if that doesnt do it, will be getting one of the above antennas I linked and doing a rooftop installation.  I currently use an old radio shack uhf/vhf antenna in my attic.

The best part about this is that once the hardware is bought and installed, its all Free and HD.

Or he can order a 25 dollar outdoor antennae

Which if he lives in the immediate Charlotte area will be fine for 10 channels.  If he lives in a fringe area he can do better.  As I said Im not dis ing your suggestion its just that there are a lot of us who live in rural areas and your antenna would get us 2 or 3 stations max.

We went ahead and did the SignatureHome with TWC.  Expensive, yep.  But with a gazillion things now needing a connection, the 50mb down is nice (even though it still is slow comparatively with my 4GLTE....Google, get here now) and having someone come to our house the same day is also awesome (especially when the guys building the deck jacked up our feed).  Concierge service, I can get used to this.

All my neighbors are buying amplified antennas that are installed inside the attic. They get about 60 channels here in Atlanta....granted more than half are Latino. Also, they have smart TVs, so no need for a roku box, they can watch YouTube, Netflix or any other apps.

Question, is there a way to DVR network shows? For example, we watch 20/20, dateline, etc... Is it possible to record these shows? I like to skip commercials.
