Interesting look at the NFL Top 100 page

How can Luck or RGIII be that high when Cam as a rookie, a record breaking rookie was only 40.   Luck threw like 400 more passes than Cam did and more Ints.   Though athletic RGIII did not win all the games coming down the stretch that he gets credit for.

Because they won more games, and went to the playoffs. And all their success, just made each more notable, because it gave more coverage of the other.

However, I do agree with you.

Cam had to carry his team on his back, where RG3 certainly did not. And though Luck did, we all know the improbably comebacks that he was involved in (after poor play), that his defense helped seal.

I give you the W's but still.  Top 20?  Slightly overrated.

I am happy we took Cam.  I have a gut feeling. Cam is going to have a Pro Bowl season.  No I don't have a single bit of proof just a gut feeling.

I wouldn't go as far as saying Kaepernick is overrated, he's got a bright future. That squad that he's on is fuging stacked though. The same one that Alex Smith lead to the NFC championship and a few bad plays from the Superbowl in 2011. It's a legitimate question to ask would the 49ers had won it all last year with Alex Smith instead?

Maybe if Smith was playing D. The 9ers needed nothing on offense. They were moving the ball at will.

AP is neither underrated or overrated, he's #1 plain and simple. He doesn't garner the attention of Kaepernick or Wilson or RG3, so he fits the bill. Players love and respect him and he's a great dude. He's been injured how many times? And rushed for 2000 yards. He's the prototypical player of htis generation.

And he does the best rendition of Michael Jordan in the NFL. Doesn't need WR to catch the passes. Doesn't get yardage after catch credit like all QBs do. Make his own defender miss. Catch passes in the backfield. Opens opportunity for WRs to get opportunity. Just a few things Adrian Peterson does that those other #1 don't and can't do.

All QBs(excluding Cam) do is throw a football. AP is the best player in the league. No contest.

Really? Well they sure weren't moving the ball at will in the first half of the Superbowl. Kaepernick struggled. Before his concussion and subsequent benching, Alex Smith was in the midst of a record setting season of his own.

Let's also not forget what the Seahawks did to the 49ers in Seattle in late December last year.

The 9ers, with the same personnel didn't make the superbowl with Smith. They did with Kaepernick and he only  played 10 games. Smith has been an average player in the league his entire career waiting to get benched. I don't know what superbowl you watched but the 9ers barely had any possession in the 1st half. The D gave up multiple Eli-like Fluko hail marys and a kick off return for a TD. I'm amazed that the 9ers was 5 yard from a superbowl title.

They were a few horrible special teams gaffes from making the Superbowl in 2011.

You're trying to argue in defense of Kaepernick, but doing a poor job. Nobody insulted the guy anyways.

I agree with you in spirit. No worries.

And after watching Cam, and the other Rookie QB's (and Kaep), I can strongly feel the Panthers made the right pick.

I think sometimes we forget, that Cam walked onto NFL fields and efficiently threw for 400 yds, in competitive games--right off the bat, in a mostly conventional offense on a last place team. I don't think any of those other guys could do that. Cam was ready from the start (despite his 'lack of experience' as a Div I QB)!

Maybe, if you switch coaches, and the Panthers wins some of those close games they lost; maybe Cam gets a higher rating in the NFL 100? He should, even with out it.

But from watching those games (and the the other rookie QB's and Kaep), I can say with strong conviction, that Cam had the most impact on the field, regardless of the various QB records. The other QB's (except Luck) were in offenses, where they actually ran the ball more than they threw. But despite this under discussed factoid/tidbit, these guys still get credit, as if the offense is/was based around them. Well it wasn't.

Big Difference.

Possibly, but Kaep is a pretty good passer. Wilson is definitely a better passer than he gets credit for, though.

Kaep, could be the least developed passer amongst them all.

He always appears nervous, rushed and has happy feet when he has to wait in the pocket (unless he has great protection--instilling confidence).

Plus, he has a very funky motion, that a decent pass rush can expose.

Like RG3: The 49ers goal, is to get the ball out of his hands as fast as possible, and use the run game as a basis for him to work off of.

My two cents. Shrugs

I dont think it was a stretch at all for Manning to be #2. He did everything expected of him last year and that was damn near impossible in the first place. Limited talent on offense, good defense. That offense had nothing before he got there, their defense was carrying them. AAaaand then theres the neck thing.

I mean so basically theyre saying if you come back from a severe injury and play really well then you should be bumped up the list. Thats fine, Im cool with that but. . where's Thomas Davis on that list then. Had to put him in the top 100 then, cmon now.

Not even a little bit. 1814 passing yards for 10 TDs and only 3 INTs, plus another 415 yards and 5 TDs on the ground for a QB rating of 98.3 and a Super Bowl appearance in 7 starts is pretty damn good. Considering that QB is by far the most important position in football, I have no problem with him being #82.

Then again, I'm not one of the Panthers fans who feels threatened when any QB other than Can Newton receives praise. There are other good QBs not named Can Newton. I'm damn happy with our guy and it doesn't bunch up my panties when others are happy with their guy.

i was thinkin you had argued that luck wasnt any good, regardless, this is a very wise statement, especially on this board!
