Canes One Of Four Teams Interested In Alexander Edler

The Fourth Period: Teams are still talking to the Canucks about Alex Edler. Teams include the Red Wings, Lightning, Canadiens and Hurricanes. It’s not clear if anything is imminent.

 

There's a few things to consider here...

 

- The Canes couldn't afford Edler outright, so the Canucks would have to eat around two million dollars of his salary (similar to what we did to Jussi Jokinen).

 

- Alex Edler is the player that took out Eric Staal at the IIHF World Championships, there is no telling how he would be received my the team...

Really I didn't see what he did as intentional. I mean he was risking his own knee as well. Who would risk their own knee to try to hurt someone else's?

It easier to cope with it when you can brace for the impact though.

Overall, I would assume that the team would get over it as Edler is a very good defenseman that would drastically improve our defense.

It would kind of remind me when the Canes re-acquired Aaron Ward (in the offseason) after Scotty Walker dropped him with a swift punch to the face in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in what some might call a cheap shot.
