Orlando Summer League

It was overdue for it's own thread...

Observations?

Who have you all found most impressive?

Best rookie so far?

The crazy thing is, I'd have to say my biggest surprise thus far has been Kelly Olynyk (sp?).  Dude has been balling out.

Plumlee has done well (from what I can tell).

Yeah, from what I've seen, he's held it down.  I just have a hard time watching any of the Plumlees for some reason.

And it has nothing to do with my alma mater.  If I went to Duke, I'd hate watching him.  It's the equivalent to when I watch Hansbrough play now, lol.

Peyton Siva plays just as he did with Louisville...love his hustle and defense. A calm guy running a team with confidence.

Kelly O is made for the summer league. I hope we see Zellar poping shots and not defering to the 2nd year guys in MKG, Jeff Taylor and 3rd year Biyombo.

I agree, the Plumlees, Hansboros are hard to watch. Any guy who has zero feel for the game puts me off.

It is early but Burke is looking erriely like DJ augustin.

Exactly.

I saw some similarities in Burke and Augustin prior to the draft...  That being said, I don't remember DJ having as much trouble as he is in getting quality shots off.  He is struggling to even create space.  John Stockton's son finished the half over him and Alec Burks is getting the bulk of the ball handling duties today.

Oladipo stroking it from 3 but turning the ball over as he is shooting most possesions.

He had 6 turnovers his first gm... All expected. His shot seemed pretty good this past season at Indy.

Plumlee looks like he will be a Splitter* without the finishing ability.

*Obligitory white guy comp

I would have to say Olynyk and Plumlee have shown they can hold their own so far. I also think Olynyk might become an All-star type player if he gains some weight. I say this because he's shown an inside and outside game some one like that will make life hard for other big guys because there are not a lot of 7 footers who have game like that.

    • Exactly He's played two seasons and started 28 games. He's well beyond the point of being able to point to 2 or 3 games and being able to say, "THAT is the QB he is and will be in the future" Of course he can get there, but anyone trying to use just those couple of games to rank his place amongst the games QB's today and their full career's worth of playing at that level, is just asinine. Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow, Hurts, Herbert, Daniels, Stafford, Goff, Geno, Purdy, Baker, Love, Dak, Tua, Kyler, Lawrence That's 17 QB's right there that have played better over their careers than Bryce has played at his best.  And I'm not saying they're all studs or guys I'd want to be our QB moving forward, Tua for example I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole, but his body of work is a million times better than Bryce's has been. It's also not including any of the other QB's drafted in 2023/2024 other than Daniels. So again, say you believe in Bryce, say you think he's going to prove he can and should be our QB of the future, that's all fair and totally fine. But nobody can say he's been an above average QB in his career thus far, it's just an asinine notion.
    • I'd think we could get one of those from Dallas for... whatever.
