Wilmington Area Huddlers (Traffic)

Is about to become worse before it gets better coming into town from the west...

A contract to widen the causeway between Leland and Wilmington is expected to be awarded by December, kicking off a long process that area officials expect will be painful for commuters.

"I've always been concerned," said Pat Batleman, Leland's mayor pro tem and transporation advisory committee representative. "This is why there were so many times where we were asking, ‘Why can't you get I-140 done first?'"

But if all goes as planned, N.C. Department of Transportation officials hope to ensure traffic will never go down to less than two lanes in each direction – even during the replacement of the two bridges over the Brunswick River.

Also, DOT has come up with a new plan for a new bridge over the Cape Fear coming into town...  it actually makes a lot of sense...

I work out in Columbus County, but I'll be back to school by then. No worries for me. Have fun though, others.

Where do you work?

I live in town so I don't have to cross that damn bridge.  My wife loves Brunswick Forest, but I'm not doing it, maybe in 10 years when they finish all of that...

As far as I know, there is no funding for the "sky way bridge".  It's a few local families that own the land on both sides trying to make some cash off of the state.

Like the article states, if they would finish the bypass and not worry about this ish, the problem would take care of itself.

To many "agendas" in the DOT.

They do need to hurry up and finish I-140/17 bypass for sure.

They also have to do something about a bridge...  The CFM bridge is old as hell...

This new plan makes the most sense I've seen... it negates the need for a new road from Hwy17 in Winnabow over to the river for a "Skyway" Bridge and it also allows them to build a much lower bridge since this new section will be north of the port.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
