Charles Johnson is 27 and hardy will be roughly that age by the time clowney would be in his second year. so we'd be stuck with another expensive 'aging' player in your words unless your scenario involves letting hardy walk after this season rather than hand him a big contract. Which would constitute dismantling our core and leave clowney as our only great (assuming he'll live up to the hype) defensive end because the bookend DEs would be gone.
