Using new pick for Britt or McKinnie? Someone else?

I wouldn't want to give up a pick for either to be honest.  People are falling in love with the player that McKinnie was and the prospect that Britt was.  McKinnie is no longer a starting caliber OT and Britt is a head case.  He looked like a guy poised to breakout after '10, but it just never happened.  I wouldn't be opposed to giving him a chance as a free agent, but I wouldn't want to have to trade for him.

I understand your point, but I disagree that Britt is a headcase. Even the reports that you read now do not give Britt all the blame for his situation. He didn't break out because of injury, pure and simple.

To me, it's a unique opportunity to get a high talent potential guy for a low round pick that you really didn't have to pay anything for. Beason was a "problem" that needed to be handled either way. It was more about trying to make him happy and clear a little cap room. It was a win-win situation. The pick was really gravy.

Many are talking down about Britt, but if he would come here and the scenario actually works, it would be good for the organization. If not, then we really haven't lost that much. I am fairly confident that if G-man chooses to sign him to something longer term, then there will be clauses that would mitigate our losses if he becomes a physical train wreck on the field, or mental train wreck off the field.

one of those things i would do if i was GM (which is probably reason #38,635 why i shouldn't be) would be to trade picks from rounds 4-7, esp. ones picked up via trade, on vets with friendly contracts to fill needs. at least that would be priority #1 with those picks. if i can't find/get what i want, then use them on BPAs.

i'd use the first three rounds to just find the best talent available in the draft and get as much value as possible from them.

it's not as cheap as using all of your picks on actual draft picks, but whatever.... it's not my money.

i still think it's a better plan than relying on the draft and low risk/ low cost FAs exclusively.

    • Besides Jones, this is wrong....Carr was a early 2nd rounder. Wentz got traded after eagles gave him 120+ million, same for Goff got a bag and dumped.    Trey Lance was traded to Dallas before his 4th.  Zack Wilson got traded to bronco after his 3rd yr for used PB&J sandwich Josh Rosen was traded in his second year. Sam darnold was trade here after his 3rd year, if you member Panthers also picked up his 5th yr option as part of the trade. Kenny Pickett traded after his 3rd year Mac Jones was traded recently Justin Fields was traded after his 3rd year   Its prime decision time in the off-season. Again BY and his crew/agent have some cards to play and there .001% he plays on 4th year here without some sort contract.
    • Yep,they seem to enjoy running the ball the OL line down field is good to see.  The Coaches doing a fantastic job!!!!
    • Yea,the Packers game I was wondering who they put in next.  Seemed like the water boy would come shortly but they did an awesome anyway despite all injuries.  Go Panthers!!!
