Battlefield 4

C47

Released today. Anybody got the game yet? Thoughts, impressions, videos or screenshots? I'm picking up my copy for the PC on the way home and going to dive into single player tonight. I want to get through the story mode before I touch multiplayer because I know if I don't I'll never touch story mode again. Can't wait to check out the new maps, guns and vehicles though in multiplayer....

Worked on getting it to play on PC last night.  Finally figured out a 3rd party app I run to remotely connect to my PC from work was hosing it up.  Odd, doesn't mess with any other game.  By the time I found that out, it was bed time.  Will try to play tonight.  I really only joined the test range and it looks good.  I tried running performance test in the options but it won't run, so I wonder if it's bugged out, since I pass recommended requirements by a bit.

Should be great though.

Forgot about that.

Have you pre-ordered the next gen yet?

I completely flubbed on it, so I'm thinking about camping out on the 14th to get it on the 15th with the little stock they'll receive outside of the pre-orders.

Yeah pre-ordered in June from Amazon. Getting it the 22nd and they waived the shipping!

wow...  I'm such an idiot lol.

I've never done the "camp out" thing the night before a release, so it's kind of intimidating...  I'm questioning whether I should just wait until the next wave of stock comes in, but I think if I wait, I may not get one until sometime in 2014.

I doubt that. They'll push a ton of crap out for Christmas.  I think it's just a big hype machine.  There should be enough eventually, I doubt it'll take till next year.

Got it yesterday and I love it.  Granted I was knee deep into some Heinekens but I had a blast.  I really like some of the changes they made to multiplayer (like the little preview of where you're going to spawn).  Didn't really play the maps enough times to really judge them properly but I like the verticality of them.  Also, snipers are really going to earn their kills.  In this game if I get sniped I don't get mad like in COD, because there really isn't any quickscoping.  Not only do you have to adjust for wind, but now you'll have to manually adjust for distance.

I've found that the UI is a bit confusing, especially when trying to switch classes.  Just not as intuitive as it was in the past, but I suppose I'll get used to it.

Played about 4 hours of the campaign before I hit multiplayer and it was pretty tight also.  Lots of "oh poo" moments.

Awesome folks!  Enjoy!

I'm going to sit out the next gens until they settle a bit more in 2014.  Also, I need a new job first...

I also want to see that there are some real improvements other than "moar shinnez!"  Graphics are nice, but is it fun?  Do more shadows and uber textures make it more immersive?  Or does your crap shine more?  I look forward to seeing what the new consoles really do.

Played campaign mode for a few hours last night before the Lakers game started. Didn't get too far into it so I can't really make a ton of comments. Of course it looks incredible, and controls feel tight and responsive on the PC. So far, my favorite gun is the FAMAS, but like I said I'm not very far at all in the story. Played a couple of games of multiplayer with a friend, but really waiting till Friday to dive into it with the double XP this weekend....

Bought it for PS3 yesterday...  I played one round of conquest IIRC.  Don't notice much difference.  Could be that I'm just rusty because I quit playing BF3 quite awhile ago, but I found it to be somewhat disorienting.  I couldn't really see where the enemies were coming from and I got popped from behind multiple times.  My final KDR was 4 to 9.  But, my team won, so that's cool.

Also, the customization of your loadouts and soldier's appearance is extremely convoluted IMO.  Seems like they tried to pump in a lot of new stuff and it just comes off confusing to me.  I also don't like this "battlepack" nonsense...  I was willing to buy one individually, but instead, of course, EA wants you to buy up to some "Premium" version of the game for basically the price of an entirely new game at $50.  Bullcrap.

Hopefully, the gameplay makes up for these issues.  I remember BF3 being extremely addictive in the unlocking and ranking up process, but so far, I'm not really feeling this like I did BF3.

    • Bryce has been in the NFL 3 years and still looks like a very mediocre QB. Most games are nothing but mediocre plays with a highlight reel every now and then.  He is a very INCONSISTENT QB and it’s very fustrating. He does not deserve a 5th year option, even though the Panthers and all the dumb asses in the front office will give it to him.
    • I’ve rarely ever been more sure of anything than losing out — but how can anyone say with a straight face “Bryce hasn’t improved, but Canales has and he’s masks his flaws”. You have to be so out of touch with reality to put one way above the other when discussing those two.
    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
