LASIK Surgery

Anyone ever had the procedure done before or know anyone that has?

I'm considering getting it done as a birthday gift to myself pretty soon. I'm fed up with wearing contacts and suffering from terrible vision. I've read it can cost anywhere from $1500-$3000 an eye depending on who performs the surgery and whereabouts the surgeon is located.

If you have had the procedure done, what can I expect? I know this information is easily accessible online but I just wanted some first hand testimonies from you folks on here.

I just want my vision back to normal!

I had Lasik in 1996....true story, no poo!  At the time....they said...oh....don't worry, we've done thousands of these and the majority have been incredibly successful.  Now I'm sure it's thousands per month!

I fricken loved it.  Unfortunately, I've aged to the point that my eyes have deteriorated enough that I do wear glasses again, but I had 16 great years of none!

The procedure itself is nothing.  I believe Lasik is when they slice a flap, laser the eye and then put the flap back.  Damn near painless and heals real quick.  When I did mine, they scraped the skin off of the surface of the eye, then lasered it and then sent me on my way...so it took a few days for the skin to grow back....have to admit...it was painful as hell for the first couple of days.  They gave me freezing drops to use for pain, but also warned that the drops would alter the healing time and potentially screw up the results.  so I only used them once.  My eyes weren't really bad but it was a great relief to not wear glasses for all those years.

TLDR:  DO IT!!!!

That's all I needed to hear! My vision isn't necessarily terrible and I am not close to being blind but my contacts bother my eyes quite a bit and I'd rather not have to worry about them for a long time. Also, one job I am interested in applying to requires 20/20 correctable vision and I want 20/20 with no help from glasses or contacts.

I did the "bladeless" procedure about two years ago. Best fugging thing I've ever done. I went to Shapiro eyecare in Greensboro, very good people there. He did follow up appointments for the next two years to make sure everything was going OK.

Damn, wrote out this entire story about the experience but it won't let me edit. Fug it, it's worth it do it.

My mom had it done back when it was a very new procedure. Both eyes were done at the same time. A good ophthalmologist now could probably do both eyes in under 30 minutes. An hour tops. You'll just need someone to drive you home, obviously. I remember my mom being in pain for about 2 days following the surgery but after that she was in love with the results. She's 53 now and has recently had to go back to glasses for reading but that's it. I wear contacts and thought that was liberating after so many years of wearing glasses. I would love to get LASIK if I can save up the money.

    • The thing is, Stroud's needle has been moving down where Young's has been moving up. Situationally, most would give the nod to Stroud over each of their tenures, so overall most are going to be more critical of him at the moment.
    • Actually we like to run more than most, and the dropoff isn't that drastic. We seem to be pretty much middle of the road. The Facons, Bucs, Browns and Bengals are the ones where running drops off markedly when they start trailing. Our line on the chart, like I said, is somewhat middle of the road.  As to whether or not if it's good or bad is anyone's guess by looking at this. I suspect people who like Old school football won't be upset at this at all. The thing is, we would have to know the game scripts and the situations, as running and or passing making sense is contextual. I know that I haven't necessarily been enamored with Canales's situational play calling. At the end of the day, I believe in using the run to set up the pass and the pass to set up the run, and trying to keep the opposition off balance, but I still believe that you should run it down their throats if they can't stop it.
    • Hey alright baseball is awesome.  I cheer for the Braves but I watch all 30 teams.  I pay for MLB TV and both local teams because I'm insane.🙃
