Clifford Needs to Make a Decision. NOW.

Does he want to win, or does he want to keep playing favorites?

Last night provided the last of the evidence he should need.

With the addition of Neal, Hendo and McBob's skills are needed for the first unit.  Neal provides the floor spacing we need now with the ability to shoot the three from the SG position, which also negates the reason McBob was out there - because Hendo couldn't do it, he made up for it.

Cody is coming into his own, and he's been showing it with his play as of late.  In significantly less minutes, he is giving us significantly more than McBob does.  Sure, McBob is the "safe" vet, he's steady, but that can often translate into being JAG on the court.  That is the perfect description of McBob and Hendo right now...  they're each "just another guy" out there.  They don't do anything to impact the game positively.

Cody on the other hand, is good for one really ugly play a night, but he's shown over the last few games and throughout the season, he is capable of providing an instant spark and finds a way to impact the game.  He's run down I don't know how many layups from a full-court sprint and thrown them into the stands...  He's stolen the ball and outran virtually everyone to the rim on a breakaway, as a 7-footer, lol.  He scraps and fights every play.  Even if he doesn't have the polish yet, his impact is felt, and he will become more polished with playing time.

As mentioned above, Neal provides what we have been missing for the longest - a two-guard who can shoot.  Before it didn't really matter, because we didn't have a low-post threat or efficient scorer in years past.  Now, with Big Al, Neal is the perfect compliment.  He doesn't have to be an outstanding individual defender, but as long as he is a really good team defender, that is all we need...

It's time to make a decision, Steve.  Quit bullshitting everyone and make the right one.

Cody still make mistakes, not sure hes ready to start just yet.  But he is improving.

Yeah, as I said, he still has a play or two a night where you go, "what was that?"  It's just the nuances of the game.  He won't get it until he gets consistent minutes though.

At the same time, he also makes those impact plays that McBob is just not capable of making, AT ALL.  When he does those things, you can see how it impacts the team and really gets them excited.  Even last night at OKC, you could tell when he got that dunk, the crowd was in awe.  It put them back on their heels a bit.  That's what we need, and he needs the minutes to continue to develop.

I don't care if he starts, if Clifford wants to keep McBob as the starter in name-only, but give Cody more minutes.

As soon as Cody went out and McBob and Hendo came back in last night, that 5-8 point lead they had went to 20 in what felt like seconds.

He has to give Neal and Zeller more minutes, point blank.

I'm ok with how its going so far on the exception of Hendo. I have always been a supporter of his pick and game. He bothers me with taking too many shots now. When he attacks the rim its good but he settles for too many 3's and turnaround fadeaways.

I'd like to see cody and biz get more minutes because I know they are playing good basketball right now. McBob is still a high energy player that is a good passer. I want him on the court when kemba is because he helps the offense be more fluid. It is something Kemba still needs to work on and he helps with that.

as long as we winning I am happy

I prefer Mcbobs play than Zellers.  Also Mcbob adds a 3 point threat.

We don't agree on this, but I appreciate what McBob has done.  The problem for me is, if he isn't hitting the three, he is useless.  Sure, he can hand out assists at a ridiculous rate for a 4, but he is worthless scoring-wise most nights.  The only exceptions to that is when he has hit three or four threes in a game, which teams give him because they know he usually won't make them pay for it.

He is a liability in rebounding, overall scoring, and defensively when compared to Zeller.  Zeller can do some really ugly looking stuff, but he also does some really impressive stuff and he is physically imposing.  Even in this infantile stage of his pro career, his raw ability gives us production in limited minutes that McBob isn't providing in extended playing time...

That's just my take.

Well no Hendo tonight guys.

INJURY UPDATE: Gerald Henderson @GhJr09 out tonight with strained right calf #CHAvsMIA

Well, I feel bad for Hendo, but I'm excited to see what Neal does in extended PT.  I really think this going to be awesome offensively, as he just complements Big Al so well.

BUT, this further irritates me about last night's game because Hendo had went to the sideline and had all of his pads, socks, shoes, etc. off and had ice wrapped around his lower leg.  We were hanging tough within less than 10 points, and then Clifford stuck Hendo back in there - walking to the scorer's table with ice still on his leg.  We proceed to get blown out.

Why would you stick him back in there with that injury and then have him sit out the next night?

Injuries can be a bit confusing like that sometimes. I remember Johnson came back into the Panthers-Patriots game after being leg whipped, played the rest of it, then was out for a couple of games. My guess is the adrenaline makes it seem like less of an issue than it really is.  Regardless, Hendo should be playing less anyway.  One thing I don't think I've seen on this thread yet is perhaps the FO wants Hendo to play more considering they signed him to a pretty decent contract over the offseason.  Unless you're Ben Gordon you usually don't get payed that kind of money to come off the bench.

Guest Dark Knight

McBob, Hendo, Tolliver, & CDR all play more minutes than MKG, Biz, & Zeller.

That's 3 scrub journeymen & a mid 1st SG who can't shoot all playing more than your last 3 draft picks, who were picked #2, #4, & #7 respectively.

Bobcats;

A] dumbest franchise in all of sports

B] tanking

Just like I said on the other thread, all of these guys are liabilities on offense. CDR rarely plays, I'm not sure what games you've been watching. Tolliver is one of 3 guys we have that can hit jumpshots consistently. McBob, as much as I want him outta there, is a good passer and decent shooter for a 4. Hendo.... yeah I'm not sure here. Like I said above I guess the FO wants to play him considering the contract.

    • It's football. I'll take it!
    • Games been a snooze fest of sloppy play
    • ESPN's David Newton: QUARTERBACKS (2): Bryce Young, Andy Dalton A preseason muscle injury to Dalton's right arm could force the Panthers to keep Jack Plummer if the issue gets worse, but that currently doesn't seem to be a concern. For the first time since going No. 1 in 2023, there is no question that Young is the starter after winning two of his final three games last season with 10 touchdowns (7 passing, 3 rushing) and no turnovers. RUNNING BACKS (3): Chuba Hubbard, Rico Dowdle, Trevor Etienne Selecting Etienne in the fourth round out of Georgia makes veteran Raheem Blackshear a likely cut. Etienne has shown in the preseason that he is a capable option as a runner, in addition to being a returner, which has been Blackshear's primary responsibility since 2022. WIDE RECEIVERS (7): Tetairoa McMillan, Xavier Legette, Adam Thielen, Jalen Coker, Jimmy Horn Jr., David Moore, Hunter Renfrow This is the most improved group on the team, so keeping seven initially makes sense. If the Panthers go with six it could make coach Dave Canales' favorite, Moore, expendable with Renfrow showing he's close to the level he played in 2021 when he made the Pro Bowl with the Las Vegas Raiders. Brycen Tremayne, who's had an excellent preseason, will be a tough cut. TIGHT ENDS (3): Tommy Tremble, Ja'Tavion Sanders, Mitchell Evans There is anticipation Tremble (back surgery) will be ready for the regular season after coming off the PUP list before the preseason finale, though he could still miss a game or two. Keeping him on the 53-man roster makes sense so she doesn't have to miss the first four games. OFFENSIVE LINEMEN (10): T Ikem Ekwonu, G Damien Lewis, G Robert Hunt, C Austin Corbett, C Cade Mays, T Taylor Moton, T Yosh Nijman, T-G Brady Christensen, G Chandler Zavala, G Jarrett Kingston Injuries to guards Lewis (strained shoulder) and Zavala (knee) plays a factor in keeping 10 instead of the nine predicted going into camp. The starting five returning from 2024 had a solid preseason, but the lackluster play of backups showed depth remains a concern. DEFENSIVE LINEMEN (6): DE Derrick Brown, NT Bobby Brown III, DE Tershawn Wharton, DE A'Shawn Robinson, NT Cam Jackson , DE Jaden Crumedy A shoulder injury that has kept fifth-round pick Jackson from making an impact means Crumedy could make it here. The biggest cut will be Shy Tuttle, who has 32 starts the past two years but little to show for it. Moving on from him will create $2.4 million in cap space that can be used elsewhere. LINEBACKERS (10): OLB D.J. Wonnum, OLB Patrick Jones II, OLB Princely Umanmielen, OLB Nic Scourton, OLB Thomas Incoom, ILB Christian Rozeboom, ILB Trevin Wallace, ILB Claudin Cherelus, ILB Jon Rhattigan, ILB Jacoby Windmon The release of ILB Josey Jewell (concussion protocol) at the start of camp required immediate attention, but Rozeboom has stepped up well. Depth remains a big question, particularly inside. Moving on from draft pick Bam Martin-Scott means he'll likely end up on the practice squad. It was time to move on from OLB DJ Johnson. Look for turnover beyond the starters here. CORNERBACKS (5): Jaycee Horn, Mike Jackson, Chau Smith-Wade, Shemar Bartholomew, Corey ThorntonJackson has played well enough at times to ease the concern opposite Pro Bowler Horn. Thorton's play during camp has been a big surprise, but the overall depth of this group means there likely will be turnover. SAFETIES (4): Tre'von Moehrig, Nick Scott, Demani Richardson, Lathan Ransom The big question is how long it will take fourth-round pick Ransom to replace Scott as the starter opposite Moehrig. Also, don't rule out another experienced player being signed. SPECIALISTS (3): K Ryan Fitzgerald, P Sam Martin, LS JJ Jansen Big-legged undrafted free agent Fitzgerald out of Florida State may have solidified his spot over Matthew Wright with a 52-yard field goal in the second preseason game against the Texans. The other two spots are solid, but Carolina likely will keep an eye out for dependable veterans who end up being released.
