There were signs of this--Panthers talked to a LB at the EW game, re-signed Senn. I guess J. Willliams has some job security. Folks, Beason, Kuechly, and Davis. That is scary.
This one wasn't surprising Hurney over paid for Anderson, Anderson was good and a hard worker but nothing special and with Beason coming back he would end up being a very expensive backup.

I'm most curious about Gross, we really in one way cant afford to keep him and let him go at the same time, it's one reason why I think Gross knows this too and is willing to gamble that they don't cut him and bite the bullet.

Folks, Beason, Kuechly, and Davis. That is scary.

The scary part is 2 out of 3 have serious health issues.
Well, I called the poo out of this months ago.

Sure, so we need some depth.

Here is the good news: Beason's achilles injury is 2 years old--the other should be healed. I never expected much last year because I have been around a few achilles injuries.

Davis is the one who scares me more, but he did get through a season on that knee. I think knee surgeries made some rather drastic improvements over the last 2 years or so. Davis, Peterson, etc. increcible. All guesses, but...

But yeah, the reality is we need depth who can play. Anderson would have been great depth, but not at $3 m.

why?

Don't get me wrong.
I respect those who have invested in this team personally for PSL's and tickets.

That said.
Wins are not part of the sales pitch.
wild shot in the dark, but could they be releasing James Anderson to be bringing in Dan Conner who was cut from the cowboys?

Maybe, but I don't really think so because Gettleman doesn't have any ties to him and Connor is more a middle linebacker than an outside guy.
Anderson was a solid player, but Jason Phillips was solid filling in for him at the end of the year. With Kuechly, TD, and Beason for passing downs and Phillips a solid choice to come back on the cheap it made sense to let him go. Good luck wherever you land James!

See my above post - you forgot Jason Phillips.

I was under the impression he is an unrestricted free agent. I like Phillips, but I think he is a MLB. If we have Kuechly and Beason, I doubt we sign an MLB. We will sign an OLB, imo.
Great move, the guy was SEVERELY overpaid.

Cutting him saves a total of $11 million over 3 years.

SS linebacker in a 4-3 is the lowest impact position as well as the position that's the easiest to replace. You can get a guy to do what he does at a fraction of the cost.

He is, but I think Carolina could get him back for a little over the minimum if they want/need to. Way cheaper than James.

Kalil told me we were going to win the superbowl last year

Can he play OLB? MLB depth w/ Beason and Kuechly is probably not happening. I love Phillip's fire.
This helps explain why the Panthers scheduled a workout with Mizzou outside linebacker Zaviar Gooden (projected fourth rounder).

The play of Jason Phillips (if resigned) also made Anderson expendable.

Don't ever go to Livermush's car lot ;)
The cap savings breaks down like this. If this is a normal cut...

2013: 200K
2014: 5.4M
2015: 5.4M

As a June 1st cut...

2013: 3M
2014: 2.6M
2015: 5.4M

So either way 11M total
I assure you Jason Philips and (is he still signed) Jason Williams can ram into blockers to free up Luke just as easily as James Anderson did.
What was his cap hit this year?

That totally would've happened if he didn't get hurt. Shame.

Makes a lot more sense for us to cut him now and get the help next year when we really need it.

You should join the Panthers Twitter fam.
Good work with cap stuff.
Anderson was pretty useless in 3-4 looks... just saying.

I bet he lands on Denver

They did just release DJ Williams, James would fit well in that D. No matter, he's not a difference maker. James is a nice linebacker but we don't need him, he's expendable.
