That's true. There are rare cases where teams still resign them, but its around 1-2% odds.
-
It kindof does.
-
You are quite literally the only person in this thread that thinks this is even remotely good idea. Let that one sink in
-
Them not picking up his 5th doesn't mean they are ready to move on from him.
-
You know Panthers have the worst LB unit in the league, this move would boost them into the 20s by just adding Lloyd. Jags maybe the old jags, they make mistakes or follow the new league and don't want to invest cap space into LBs. Either way they have a huge need/want at WR while having a surplus of LBs and that fits with what the Panthers have. No one wants to answer my questions, why wasn't Coker with BY and the whole WR crew at ATs bro retreat bonding?
-
Is a great trade. Its works for everyone and increase each teams win % odds.
-
The Jags had the second worst defense in the league last year behind us and they're ready to punt this guy. That kinda says it all. No thanks, I'll keep my young WR who has shown some promise especially considering we only have two proven WRs on the roster one of whom is trying to work his way back into the league after a two year health related absence.
-
How many TDs will Coker get with Chubba, Dowdle, Etienne, JT, Tremble, Evans, AT, XL. Tmac, Hunter, Moore, and Horn in 2025?? How many Recs?
-
It's a bad deal.
-
No panic, just a move that works for the Panthers and works for the Jags.
-
The price is one year of Lloyd, whom they don't view as a future piece. Potentially Coker is a solid #2-3 WR and Jags have holes on WR #2-6. It fill a big need for the jag and they retain 2 years of a cheap contract. Trade works great for each team= win win win
-
MLB Devin Lloyd for WR Jalen Coker??
The NFL Shield At Midfield replied to Basbear's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah if a few things break the wrong way (Legette doesn't take the next step, AT decides to hang it up, the Renfrow project doesn't work out) we're leaning hard on TMac, Jimmy Horn, and who else, like David Moore going into 2026? Don't deal somebody like Coker just to make a bad defense slightly better. You have a cheap, young corps growing up together right now. As it stands our WR corps is looking promising but it isn't like we're the Bengals with Higgins and Chase either, where we've got two number 1 WRs we can lean on and put low risk/high reward late round and UDFA receivers under them on the depth chart to see if we hit on one. In a lot of ways we don't truly know what we have yet. On paper it looks good but, well we've seen that before. -
This smells of BS. TBH, the whole story smelled of them trying to duck his contract.
-
Panic moves are Rhule/Fitterer stuff. LB may not work out this year, so be it.
-
If Coker is so mediocre why would the Jags trade for him?
-
Nonsense. Ian Thomas has been a 4x Pro Bowler and future HOF candidate. Practice reports tell me so.
-
Yeah, we are down a starter in Jewell and a key backup in Zavala. Not a great start.
-
IF The team WANTS another linebacker, then trade a pick for it and be done. Don't trade away young talent just because a fan feels the need.
-
No. Coker was our best WR last year and has a good shot at being our 2nd best this year.

For anyone who ever watched food network. Looks like accidental suicide. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna220836

starting to get interested here.... The Jaguars will continue the string of teams declining fifth-year options on off-ball linebackers. As the NFL’s option formula still groups all linebackers together, Devin Lloyd will become the latest ILB to see his not exercised. Lloyd is now in a contract year, ESPN.com’s Jeremy Fowler confirms. He would have been due a fully guaranteed $14.75MM had the Jaguars’ new regime signed off on his 2026 option. Lloyd is extension-eligible, so he could factor into the Jags’ long-term plans. No team has exercised a fifth-year option for an off-ball LB since the Buccaneers picked up Devin White‘s in 2022. That decision did not turn out well, as the All-Pro’s value cratered soon after. Over the past three offseasons, Patrick Queen, Kenneth Murray, Isaiah Simmons, Jordyn Brooks and Jamin Davis had seen their options declined. The Cardinals passed on Zaven Collins‘, despite moving him to the edge, and it should be expected the Packers will decline Quay Walker‘s ($14.75MM) by Thursday’s deadline. This wrinkle reminds of the guard market, as the price of franchise-tagging a player at that position is complicated due to all O-linemen being grouped together under this formula as well. Guards and ILBs have easier paths to free agency as a result, and Lloyd could end up as a key piece on next year’s market because of the Jags’ Wednesday decision. The Jags did pick up Travon Walker‘s fifth-year option, but the former No. 1 overall pick serves as an edge player. Lloyd has been a locked-in starter since his rookie year, but Trent Baalke‘s second pick since the Urban Meyer firing moved him to the top of the franchise’s personnel pyramid could use a quality contract year to display his value to both the Jags and other teams. Jacksonville traded up from No. 33 (via Tampa Bay) to acquire Lloyd at No. 27 overall. He has been a consistent producer despite the Jaguars continuing to change defensive coordinators. Lloyd, 26, has missed just three career games. He has made at least 113 tackles in each of his three seasons, working as a regular under Mike Caldwell and Ryan Nielsen. After making just two tackles for loss during his first two seasons combined, Lloyd — a former 27 overall pick out of Utah — made seven last season. The Jags hired Anthony Campanile to run their defense this year. Lloyd will undoubtedly be a key piece. Pro Football Focus has graded Lloyd as a top-15 linebacker in each of the past two seasons. https://www.profootballrumors.com/2025/04/jaguars-to-decline-lb-devin-lloyds-fifth-year-option all that said, I don't believe Dan and Dave will do this. I think they are content on building with what we have, and letting young guys like Trevin grow. kinda crazy to not trade an udfa for a 1st rounder who has performed.

I mean he's getting better and learning the MLB spot, right? Plus given the jags are out of the playoff picture, he rarly played the last game. I added 10 tackles.........(call the NFL cops!!!!) 2 sacks last year and 2 in my projections..... He had 8 and 7 PDs, I added 2 for 10. So I bumped some numbers a couple % and you feel that's crazy/insane thinking?? You know how bad posting a 0 is on the laws, besides we are using a rookie yr as well. How about we both agree on his 17 average listed and Ill let the 0s break the averages? That average line would 100% beat whatever coker is able to fight and claw for in the deeeeeeeep WR room. You know thats right. What are your projections for Coker or lloyd in Panthers Uniforms, lets compare them!!

No thanks. Chances all of our WRs make it through the season healthy is slim. Thielen is one year older missed some time last year. Renfrow literally didn't think he was going to play football again. One injury and what was looked at as a "strength" of this team no longer is if we deal away assets. Off ball LB is the RB of the defense. That position just doesnt offer as much value anymore
-
Coker just had terrible luck. He came out in a deep WR rookie class and had injuries that killed his stock. If he had a healthy year and came out in 2025- I am fairly sure he'd been a solid 3rd and no later than mid 4th. Jags drafted two LB this past draft and have Muma former 3rd on the roster and Miller former 4th both are still in their rookies deals. They did not exercise his 5th, that's normally a sign that you are not part of their future plans. I knew going against cokeheads would be hard.....
