In the interest of getting this thread back on track though... https://www.yahoo.com/sports/article/buccaneers-464-pound-rookie-desmond-141352443.html That is a LARGE man.

Are they not both on 2 year $8 million contracts? Not trying to be smug, just trying to see what I’m missing.
-
The year 2025? Maybe you want to join us? Furthermore his rookie season is statistically one of the 5 worst on record in at least 2 decades and we had the worst passing offense in the league.

Josina Anderson: Panthers NOT trading Adam Thielen

Lol. The Texans are literally one of Bryce's six career NFL wins. WTF are you talking about?
-
Yeah, I mean it is a statistical fact and also part of literally a player evaluation. Winston has literally lost dozens of games in his NFL career due to crippling TO's. It's just who he is. Look, it's fun when those insane throws work and he is leading you back from some crazy deficit. But those success are rare. It's why his career GWD count is so low. He's fun but he is fundamentally built to lose games. If you are talking about a backup QB, you are literally already losing in the first place. That's how you see a backup QB and that's overwhelmingly what they tend to do. Rookie QB's almost always benefit from veteran QB's. Same as literally any other position in the NFL. Why do you think that you so often hear that from the playera themselves? As for Bryce NEEDING one, no he sure as poo shouldn't this late in the game. But he also shouldn't have needed this fuging long to get his fuging footwork straightened out either. Yet here we are.
-
Comfortability is the primary reason. They don't want to hurt Bryce's confidence. But I say if his confidence is that fragile that healthy competition which makes everyone better is enough for them to keep making Andy Dalton rich then Bryce was never going to be the guy anyway. Give me the QB who sees the competition amongst his peers and uses it to take it to the next level. Instead we get the guy who comes out looking like a deer in the headlights against the Texans after we've done everything possible to appease him. Definition of complacency.

Our TEs are not causing people to tremble (yep, that just happened) and backs out of the were not impacting game plans. That is two of the checkdowns most teams use a lot- -
Why does our 3rd year #1 draft pick need a mentor? Who is cj stroud back up? Jayed Daniel's? Drake maye?
-
If Winston isn't a worthy mentor than Dalton sure as hell isn't either. People swear they want us to be a winning franchise but maybe we've been downbad too long if this is where we're at.
-
I don't think the hypothetical move to RT would ever materialize. He has never played RT at the college or pro level. I believe it was Moton himself that stated its not simple to make this switch. I think realistically, if Ikey fails at LT he is likely to end up at OG. I also think that door is closed here, so more likely than not it would be with a new team.
-
Dalton threw 2 pick sixes in one game against the Cardinals in his final season with the Saints. We are not in a position to be judging other QB's for turnovers.
-
Winston is a TO machine. That's precisely why he isn't able to get much in the way of compensation. Million dollar talent but ten cent brain. He would certainly be entertaining to watch here but he wouldn't do much in the way of winning. Additionally, I don't think Winston is going to be capable of adding much to the QB room for a supposedly developing QB.

The trade we need to make right now per Enzo Flojo

A 4th, for Jonathan Mingo? Absurd. Never would happen. Craziness. -
He's not a capable back up and someone like Winston is literally half the price
-
But if you want to cape for this man go off brother.
-
Agree to disagree. I am completely over paying terrible football players because they are nice or this or that. At least when Jerry Richardson did it we weren't absolute gutter trash every season.
-
Getting a better backup is going to be far, far more expensive and likely net fairly middling results. I have no idea why people bitch about Dalton, he has shown he is a capable backup. There is no backup in the NFL that is going to march in here and start winning games with a bad team in Kyle Allen fashion. This is a Panthers fan fantasy that is completely illogical.
-
Yeah I can understand wanting a young project QB3, but Dalton being cut is probably on the bottom of the list of priorities…

I think some of that is also scheme too. We rarely scheme players open in some of the recent dumpster fire offenses we have been running. -
Dalton is not making enough money to matter in terms of the cap. His max pay on this deal is in 2026 at a paltry $5.8 mil. There is no reason to create another problem here. We have enough of them already.

No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early. As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts. Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here. He doesn’t really check any box. No young potential. Can’t step in and win. And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
-
I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
-
Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks

I get it man it was discussed heavily when he was resigned. It doesn't make sense
