1st rounder this year isn't exactly the time to swing for the fences on a "but what if" type guy. Could he become a monster? Sure. But there's 5 or 6 other guys who help this team, are safer picks, and can also turn into monsters. Maybe the scouts think his tape is better than what his stats say, feel like I heard a podcast not long ago mention it. But at the end of the day, the tape and what he did in games matters more than size, athleticism numbers, etc.

If he's there, you sprint to the podium and not even think about it. But...he won't be there.

Minor things like this build culture....and build up our reputation with players, and maybe even more importantly, agents.

Pleasant surprise for sure. Seems like the beat writers even thought he was gone for more money. I'd cut Nijman, save the 3+ mil, and draft an OT in the 4th or 5th and the OL is locked in.

I still think our entire scouting department is one of our bigger issues. Until we consistently nail a couple of drafts, the GM is getting bad advice from somewhere. Whether it's Hurney, Gettleman, Fitterer, or Morgan...I'm tired of hoping to come out of drafts with 2 guys.

No where to go but up If a couple of the moves pan out, we're a Top 20 defense, which is probably all we can ask for right now. A top 20 defense wins us a couple more games last year. IF we continue to get new Bryce, plus the additions, I think we've got a shot at competing for the division.

I think the FA moves set us up to go Walker (or even offense). But to me the dream is still... 1. Graham 2. Walker 3. Edge TBD 4. Darkhorse - Will Campbell (if there) or Warren to the chagrin of many A trade down to get a better 2nd round pick would be great, but feel like we're going to need a weird draft for that to happen. I do think that Dart is coming off the board way earlier than anticipated, but 8 is a stretch. Even Omarion Hampton could be a sneaky top end of the 1st guy IMO. If Jeanty goes to the Raiders for instance, the Cowboys or Broncos might come calling to us for Hampton.

Oof. Hate the contract, but also in a spot where we had to as barren of talent as we are. Eventually you have to pay your own. Now let us pray the man can stay healthy.

I have a weird feeling the Horn thing is what Jeremiah could be talking about. Feel like it has to be a trade to get that type of ominous tweet, and contract negotiations could've broken down with Horn wanting top money.

They're using the AJ Brown trade as the starting point it seems, but Brown was in the last year of his rookie deal. DK is in the last year of his already big salary. They need to back off that 1st and 3rd. If it's a late first, maybe. If he's coming here, it's probably involving us flipping 8 for 18 and whatever middle round pick gets it done. $30 mil comes with sticker shock, but I think he'll get that or really close to it looking at other contracts out there now. Edit - it won't happen, but would love to see the trade wait and happen on draft night. If Mason Graham is at 8, I don't want to trade out. If he's gone, I don't mind flipping 8 for 18.

Makes too much sense, which means it probably won't happen. But from this thread... 1. Get DK. 2. If it's between Horn and DK, DK it is. DK has some minor injuries every now and then, but he plays. Horn is Horn. Last year wasn't the norm, and if he wants top 3 money? Shiiiiiiiiiit. I'm all for paying him a fair deal and want him here, but tagging and/or trading him becomes the play if he won't budge.

Jonathan Allen is on the trade block. Might be too expensive (even coming off an injury), but could be an interesting look to help the DL depending on his next contract.

Rather have Mays re-signed (and cheaper) at this point.

Only other thing he says is that we essentially need to draft a winner. Which, I think there might be some credence to. Draft guys who are used to winning (hello, Eagles/Georgia), instead of guys from 7-5 teams who sat out of the Pop Tarts Bowl.

This is an underrated part of it to me. It *seems* (hopefully) that Bryce is mentally in a better place and hopefully continues on his upward trajectory. But, if he is a mental midget. A. We're screwed. B. Bringing in competition might have a negative impact on him, as crazy as that is for a competitor. So, you keep his friend/mentor, you don't rock the boat, and you hope he starts next season on fire and moves beyond whatever demons he had once and for all. If the demons surface again, we have our answer on Bryce, and Dalton isn't going to play us out of a top pick.

Would've preferred Fields (I want him as Taysom Hill), but fine with Dalton. $6 mil guaranteed over 2 years, fine by me. Draft a guy this year or next to be the next backup/development guy.

I always get sucked in to the trade down option. But I've reached the point where unless we're getting a future 1st, what's the point? Until we can show the ability to have a draft class top to bottom that contributes, meh to extra 2nd and 3rd round picks.

Interview him, ask who he likes at the top of this draft, end the interview

I'd be mad about the pick initially, but it could make a ton of sense. Obviously I want defense, but we're still at the point roster wise where I could talk myself into almost any position making sense for us next year & beyond.
