  1. I'll start a crazy thread if that happens, and I have not started a thread since my crazy draft madness simulator thread.
  2. Big time. We don't have a roster that can win now, so we're building for the future. Do we really need Burns right now on an expensive contract? No. We have a rookie QB and a weak roster. You trade Burns to the Rams for the picks and plan for the future. Juice up the offense first, then look for a good DE in the future. That's not an "out there" plan, that's the obvious course of action. Instead we're going to do the opposite and sign expensive defensive vets with a Young QB who is still learning. Yikes. But Fitt has never done what I wanted, so it is what it is.
  3. I don't know about others, but I don't want Burns leaving at this point. I wanted us to take the Rams deal, but the moment we rejected their final offer I was on board with keeping Burns. We're locked in now, and Burn's agent knows how highly Fitt values Burns because, if for no other reason, then because we rejected the Rams mega deal, and because of Fitt's statements to the media about Burns being our cornerstone player on defense. No need to use past stats alone to estimate his market value because we already know he's viewed as the key to our defense. I would imagine Burns and his agent feel that they can write their own ticket so to speak. His agent is just waiting for the market price to be set, or for the Panthers to make their own bank busting deal ahead of time. Burns can put his feet up and relax and smoke a stogie at this point. His ship has finally come in. This isn't how I want the team to be run, where we lock in on a player who doesn't really dazzle me, and then pay him elite money while his agent has the edge in negotiations. As a fan who doesn't really care that much about the individual players, this doesn't make me happy. It gives me the same feeling I had when Marty Hurney signed Charles Johnson to a huge deal. The players are not the same of course, but I have the same bad feeling. Is Burns going to become this dominant pass rusher who changes the outcomes of some of our close games? The last game I watched him play he honestly looked worse than our backups, but of course you can't judge him by one game. I'm just saying I'm wary of the upcoming deal, but I do want to keep Burns at this point.
  4. I don't think Burns wasn't trying hard to help set up our draft position, but anything is possible. I wanted the Panthers to win the TB game and make the playoffs. Fans rooting for or against the Panthers in the TB game doesn't have any effect on the outcome of the game of course. Losing to TB was a benefit to the Panthers assuming Young pans out. The better QB he becomes, the better the benefit of losing the TB game of course. But the reverse is true as well, although it's more likely Young will pan out. Your "true fans" opinion falls under the "no true Scotsman" fallacy, or fan gatekeeping without any authority. I find it strange that you wanted us to lose the TB game, but that doesn't diminish your status as a fan in my eyes. If you care about the outcome of the game, then you're a fan in my opinion.
  5. I started predicting that TB was going to go deep to Evans again later in the game, but I found my early warning.
  6. I decided to go back and look at my posts for TB game and we didn't follow my plan at all haha.
  7. I kept my eye on Brian Burns for most of the TB game and I announced in thread that we needed him to come up big in the game. I never saw him do anything positive in the game, and at times he appeared to be taking plays off and resting. But to defend him a bit, he did get surgery in the off season. He may have been hobbled by an injury, and certainly played like it. Once the DE market price is set his agent is going to light us up.
  8. Well part of the unrealistic fan base expectations has its origin with the Panthers media. They kept writing pieces that made it appear that Young was some sort of god-tier wunderkind who is practically a coach on the field. They stopped, but it's too late. Casual fans are expecting Tom Brady or Joe Montana out there.
  9. Yeah I'm sure I saw an on camera interview where Rhule said he didn't have the time or inclination to run everything or act as some sort of co-gm. He left the GM stuff to Fitt was the impression I got from the interview. Now was he lying? Who knows?
  10. If you really want to come up with prediction of how our season is going to go, then don't compare last season's team to this season's team. Compare our roster to the rosters of teams we're going to play this season. We're not playing the teams we played last season this season. I think Vegas has us at 7 wins the last time I looked. I think that is a bit generous, but not that far off.
  11. Looking back it was really a tale of QBs. Bridgewater. Darnold. Mayfield. All trash. Even if Rhule were a decent HC we were not going anywhere with those QBs. This isn't hindsight either, everyone was saying Darnold was trash. I was horrified at the time and though it was a prank that we traded those picks for him. I thought people were joking on here at the time. I had to google it. We've suffered through so many bad decisions that we're almost due for something good to happen. Please Young be legit.
  12. We obviously don't have a good roster from top to bottom. We have placeholder type players at too many positions, and roster building is badly needed but that takes time. We got Young, and now we build from here. There's nothing wrong with that. I wish we would have moved up 2 spots to draft Herbert and already have a good team, but I'm not running the show. They didn't want to trade up for Herbert for some reason, and here we are years later in a partial rebuilt developing a rookie QB. Fine. It has to happen.
  13. The offense is very depleted with the loss of CMC and DJ, and it wasn't that good even with them. You can't subtract those two players and add what we did and expect good results. The WR corps is obviously not good enough, and the o-line looks like it's going to have pass blocking issues. That means get ready for 13 point games on our side whenever we play a good team. Having said that, we're going to have to take our medicine now in the hopes that Young can be the type of QB we can win the SB with. It's all about the future for the time being. Yes we will enjoy the season, but we're obviously not headed to the playoffs. It's fun to be positive and anything can happen, but I just don't see a good season coming up. We're in need of a #1 WR badly. Young needs a player who can get separation and win 50/50 balls. A dominant receiver is not on our roster. That means we will have to scheme our receivers open, or throw them open. That puts pressure on Young and the coaching staff, and you don't want that. But we didn't secure a #1 WR in free agency, so now we're going to struggle. it's going to be tough and frustrating, but it's been that way for so long that it won't be a shock. Yes lower your expectations. Asking Young to drag this offense down the field as a rookie is going to be painful. The team will be built up from here to fit Young and our coaches. That's why I want those 1st round picks for Burns so badly. But it is what it is now. We'll need to hit free agency hard next season.
