I kept my eye on Brian Burns for most of the TB game and I announced in thread that we needed him to come up big in the game. I never saw him do anything positive in the game, and at times he appeared to be taking plays off and resting. But to defend him a bit, he did get surgery in the off season. He may have been hobbled by an injury, and certainly played like it. Once the DE market price is set his agent is going to light us up.

Well part of the unrealistic fan base expectations has its origin with the Panthers media. They kept writing pieces that made it appear that Young was some sort of god-tier wunderkind who is practically a coach on the field. They stopped, but it's too late. Casual fans are expecting Tom Brady or Joe Montana out there.

Yeah I'm sure I saw an on camera interview where Rhule said he didn't have the time or inclination to run everything or act as some sort of co-gm. He left the GM stuff to Fitt was the impression I got from the interview. Now was he lying? Who knows?

If you really want to come up with prediction of how our season is going to go, then don't compare last season's team to this season's team. Compare our roster to the rosters of teams we're going to play this season. We're not playing the teams we played last season this season. I think Vegas has us at 7 wins the last time I looked. I think that is a bit generous, but not that far off.

Looking back it was really a tale of QBs. Bridgewater. Darnold. Mayfield. All trash. Even if Rhule were a decent HC we were not going anywhere with those QBs. This isn't hindsight either, everyone was saying Darnold was trash. I was horrified at the time and though it was a prank that we traded those picks for him. I thought people were joking on here at the time. I had to google it. We've suffered through so many bad decisions that we're almost due for something good to happen. Please Young be legit.

We obviously don't have a good roster from top to bottom. We have placeholder type players at too many positions, and roster building is badly needed but that takes time. We got Young, and now we build from here. There's nothing wrong with that. I wish we would have moved up 2 spots to draft Herbert and already have a good team, but I'm not running the show. They didn't want to trade up for Herbert for some reason, and here we are years later in a partial rebuilt developing a rookie QB. Fine. It has to happen.

The offense is very depleted with the loss of CMC and DJ, and it wasn't that good even with them. You can't subtract those two players and add what we did and expect good results. The WR corps is obviously not good enough, and the o-line looks like it's going to have pass blocking issues. That means get ready for 13 point games on our side whenever we play a good team. Having said that, we're going to have to take our medicine now in the hopes that Young can be the type of QB we can win the SB with. It's all about the future for the time being. Yes we will enjoy the season, but we're obviously not headed to the playoffs. It's fun to be positive and anything can happen, but I just don't see a good season coming up. We're in need of a #1 WR badly. Young needs a player who can get separation and win 50/50 balls. A dominant receiver is not on our roster. That means we will have to scheme our receivers open, or throw them open. That puts pressure on Young and the coaching staff, and you don't want that. But we didn't secure a #1 WR in free agency, so now we're going to struggle. it's going to be tough and frustrating, but it's been that way for so long that it won't be a shock. Yes lower your expectations. Asking Young to drag this offense down the field as a rookie is going to be painful. The team will be built up from here to fit Young and our coaches. That's why I want those 1st round picks for Burns so badly. But it is what it is now. We'll need to hit free agency hard next season.

The fact that some Panthers fans know who Throckmorton is amazes me.

I didn't have have hopes for Corral right out of the gate, and I never understood the pick. Then I saw his dreadful preseason games where he looked like a high school QB who won a contest to play a few games. Let's be honest, whenever the Panthers select a later round QB I expect him to bounce around the league like a pinball and then disappear. I'm guessing fans are blaming Rhule or Tepper for this one, but I can't be bothered to read about it.

Trade: Panthers Acquire Ihmir Smith-Marsette from Chiefs
pantherj replied to Bluetooth's topic in Carolina Panthers
We're in need of explosive WRs who can make big time plays down field. I don't want to watch 17 games of small ball trying not to make a mistake. -

I feel like Shi dropped to many passes and he wasn't really a burner, so what was the point? Time to move on. -

We're the opposite of loaded at WR so welcome aboard Ihmir! -

Chiefs fans are saying he was going to be cut if they didn't trade him because they're loaded at WR. -

I should have specified I don't mean just tonight. The game just started. I mean I've seen him miss that deep sideline throw several times since he's been here. -

Oh boy 6th round pick incoming probably. Nice trade up Fitt. Love it.
-
Oh I thought you guys were talking about the hot mic where the guy asked if Bryce would be able to see over the podium or was it too high.
-
Wilks was send packing, so it didn't work out all that well. Fitt has seen a great many people sent packing. Not good obviously. We have no idea if Reich will pan out, so just like with Burns we need to wait and see. I'm unaware of any sort of battle to court Reich and beat out other interested teams for his services. The last bidding war we had was for Rhule of course. Not trading Burns for 3 first round picks still bothers me. I'd rather have the picks based on what I've seen from Burns in the past. But I acknowledge that I'm just a fan, and my opinion could turn out to be incorrect. I certainly wouldn't and couldn't be the GM of the Panthers. I'm glad I'm just a fan as well. Now I have a question for you. Were you one of Rhule's biggest defenders on the Huddle?
-
The Panthers have never had a GM who I have really liked or thought made the right moves. Fitt has been a train wreck if we're talking about alignment with what I want. I wanted Burns traded for 3 first round picks. You never restructure a player you might trade soon, and then he did just that with CMC and we're on the hook for 18 million this season. Restructure of Donte Jackson's contract after blowing out his Achilles. I don't like what Fitt he's doing, but I'm just a fan. I'm not qualified to evaluate FItt and determine if he's a good GM or not. I don't know, but I don't like what a lot of what he's done. Makes no sense. Darnold made no sense. It's just a mess from my view. I want a GM who is cold hearted, but also good at evaluating talent. Like Gettleman was cold hearted, but he couldn't evaluate talent very well, like Venon Butler for example. But Gettleman wasn't handing out sweetheart "love you thank you buddie" contracts that benefit the player at our expense unless Jerry Richardson forced him to do so. I want us to win in contract negotiations, but we always lost with Hurney, and now we're handing our worse contract with Fitt. Burn's agent is going to bend Fitt over. That's not how you win, but the players with love our franchise. It sucks.
