first, can a mod remove the 23 from this section of the forum? Just leave it as a draft forum without the year on it. 4. Carolina Panthers: Dl Mason Graham or EDGE Abdul Carter For most of 2024, it appeared the Panthers would utilize this selection on another first-round quarterback. But given Bryce Young‘s recent resurgence (ninth-best PFF passing grade since Week 10), Carolina may be better suited to upgrade a defense that ranks 31st in EPA per play. With Derrick Brown missing most of the season due to an injury, the Panthers' interior defensive line has largely been a non-factor. Starters A’Shawn Robinson and LaBryan Ray have both generated PFF overall grades below 55.0, including pass-rushing grades below 57.0. Getting Brown back will immediately help, but pairing him with a two-way disruptor like Mason Graham would be ferocious. Edge rusher is another focal area of need, especially given that Jadeveon Clowney (team-leading 30 pressures) is almost 32 and has only one year left on his contract. D.J. Wonnum (14.8% pass-rush win rate) has been a bright spot, but he’s played only 212 snaps — all of which have come over the past four weeks. Abdul Carter is elite in pretty much every department, boasting 77.0-plus PFF grades in pass rushing, run defense and coverage. His 90.3 PFF overall grade ranks sixth among all edge rushers in college football. https://www.pff.com/news/draft-early-or-2025-nfl-mock-draft they had T-Mac as an option much later in the first. This article does a good job matching team needs vs BPA. Of course, if you're drafting in the top 10, pretty much every position is an area of need.

What Do You Think About Our Rookies Thus Far?
Captain Morgan replied to Hoenheim's topic in Carolina Panthers
"Back in June, when the weather was significantly warmer and rookies were significantly less experienced, defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero was heading home one evening when he passed by the secondary meeting room. It wasn't a special trip, it just happened to be on his route out of the building, but he peeked in the door when passing by and saw something that has stuck with him ever since. Assembled in the room were all the rookie defensive backs on the offseason roster, representing drafted players and UDFA's. At the front of the room, where a coach would usually stand, was fifth-round rookie Chau Smith-Wade. "He's running the meeting," Evero laughed, telling the story on Thursday as the Panthers prepare for their Week 15 matchup with the Cowboys. "And all the rookies are in there and they're watching tape and going through the calls. And so that was really, really cool to see a guy that we just drafted, who came in instantly with great habits. And we've seen that all the way along the way." It was foreshadowing into what Smith-Wade would become for this defense by the end of the season, playing 67 percent of the defensive snaps over the last two games and becoming the starter at nickel as a rookie. He has 34 tackles, a forced fumble, a pass defended and an interception during that time." https://www.panthers.com/news/notebook-rookie-nickel-chau-smith-wade-showing-many-skills -

CHARLOTTE — A funny thing happened in the locker room after Sunday's loss to the Eagles. There wasn't an immediate rush to the door. Usually, after a road game, particularly a road loss, guys shower quickly, change, and head for the bus that takes them to the airport. And it's not that guys were lingering, but there was a clear sense of camaraderie after that game, which you don't always see. After head coach Dave Canales spoke to the team and went back to his office to change for the flight, guys began to gather. Canales mentioned that Chuba Hubbard had topped the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career. People came to congratulate him. Hubbard then thanked his offensive line, and people came to congratulate them. And that circle kept growing. It wasn't just the starting five, but backup guard and eligible extra blocker Chandler Zavala was part of it; injured center Austin Corbett was on the trip and he got pulled into the group. Like a rock dropped into a still pond, the ripple kept expanding, bringing more and more guys into the recognition. It wasn't a party — they know they lost, and close isn't enough — but it was a growing number of people engaged in a shared purpose. And you could sense the difference. Canales didn't tell them to congregate, it happened organically. And that's the important part. This team is beginning to internalize his message, say his words back, and get closer to the goals that were abstract concepts at the beginning of the season. They know the expectation and that they're still short of it. But they can also see that the work is beginning to pay off, and that's drawing them closer together. https://www.panthers.com/news/ask-the-old-guy-coming-together-getting-closer

Will this team finally draft a center?
Captain Morgan replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Brady. We gotta keep that guy somehow. He'll probably want starting tackle money, but it would be nice to keep him as he enters his prime. -
look at the south....Saints trending down. Falcons trending down. Bucs basically floating dead in the water with a chance to improve with Baker....but I'd rather have Bryce. Our GM ain't perfect but he's better than his predecessors. I believe we had a good draft. And while we have hung with the Chiefs and Eagles, we have a great position in the draft. Plus 2 4ths and 3 5ths. The future is bright. Improved progress and we can compete for the division title next year.

lol I'll take it -
I'm starting to lean towards Graham. Of course, before the combine, all this kind of stuff is up in the air, but the elite have risen to the top and many will stay there. 1. Hunter is everyone's favorite right now, but a two way at #1 is a little odd. I read he may be best at corner at the NFL level, and I wouldn't want to spend #1 on a corner. If he plays both ways in the NFL, ok. That's what the mocks are saying now. Jacksonville has a ton of needs. 2. Raiders and Sandurs seems done. 3. Giants need a QB bad. So Ward. 4. Gets real interesting here. Patriots have their QB and would love to get one of two things....WR1 or a LT to protect him. They have a choice between McMillan and Campbell. Some say Campbell is better suited inside, but if you need a LT you have to get him when you can. It's their choice. 5. Here we are....a WR1 would complete our future offense minus a stud TE. Burden had a down year, don't know why, maybe QB was different or injured. McMillan right now looks to be the top. I like the idea of a 6'5'' receiver for Bryce. However, maybe the media is hyping both too much. Carter seems to be the popular choice, but he's raw, and that's making me nervous. Which, to me, leaves Graham. Say what you will about Harbaugh, he cheated, got caught and got away with it, but he assembled real talent at Michigan. Plus we don't know how healthy Brown will be when he returns. It would damn sure make us a better team, a safe pick, on one of the most sure elites in the draft.

compared to the Saints, who have negative 62 mill in space next year, they have 3 players who will collect 48 mill in dead money as well.
-
wonderful. Just 33 mill next year, but the year after that, we have the fifth most space in the league, 148 million dollars with our OL paid for. We can sign who ever we want. We gonna compete next year, certainly for the South title

Current Draft Position & Potential Prospects
Captain Morgan replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
we'll get a great player that fits our many needs. Spent the last few weeks debating which to go with, and I ended up with McMillan. That and another TE in the 4th (we have 2 picks in that round) will complete our offense for Bryce. If he's not there I'll ecstatic with the DT or Edge. I heard Carter is still raw, but Johnson is about the safest pick in the draft. He's an island. Matched with Horn, our rushers will have more time. Not wild about another corner in the first, but it is a need. -

Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 5m As the #Panthers battle the Bucs today, keep an eye on the urgency in the offensive huddle. Carolina is putting an emphasis on quick messaging and rallying to the line to give a better opportunity for processing. For Bryce Young, it’s seemingly working:- 2,035 replies

if hasn't been posted before, if NY wins we will pass them in draft order based om strength of schedule. If Dallas loses, our 4th from them for Mingo will be higher in the order.

glad we have him and Clowney for next year as well
