note the careful wording "We have zero interest in trading deshaun Watson" is an appeal to Watson, not a declaration to the league, followed by some commentary on the importance of "open communication" Saying you have no interest implies you could obtain interest, if you truly had "zero interest," then your statement would be directed at the league: "we will not trade deshaun Watson" or even the tried and true "we have no plans to trade deshaun Watson" if you wanted something more in between

this has got to be a parody account -

I think you've probably answered your own question -
If the Panthers land Stafford, it is win now, not rebuild

this is just the worst possible scenario You're giving up draft capital you could've just used to go get a franchise QB, and to make up for it, you're giving up an all pro caliber prospect in turn you're getting a window player, while sacrificing your most immediate means of reinforcing said window and worst of all, I do think it's what the team is planning -

I didn't say mac Jones, I said QB #5, which is still very fluid now between him and Lance The QB orderings right now are entirely media fabrications, and a raw fcs player who played one average game this season and won't get a combine is especially vulnerable to the head coach treatment that comes when coaching staffs start to get involved in the scouting process at the end of the season There isnt a conventional range system with QBs, either a guy is a 1st round guy and you take him or he isn't, and it very much looks like 5 is the magic number -

the odds that four QBs go before 8 is borderline absurd, it's the absolute nuclear scenario, and in which case I'm pretty content to take guy #5 in what is apparently an even better class than we think, or laterally just take Sewell/top pass rusher and whatever it -

great point Zod, thanks for highlighting this obviously a well ran organization would see the opportunity ahead and seek to build a team that can dominate for a sustained period if you trade for a declining QB, you cap out your rebuild while spending valuable resources that could be used to improve the team for a shot a couple 10 win seasons Great point -
This is a textbook argument on why coaches shouldn't wield personnel control

would seriously just rather not do anything with that pick at all

so less than what we'd give up for Matt Stafford -
you know what you could also get for a 1 and 2? The 3rd pick in the draft but id bet folding money if this indeed is the teams thought process, that they've convinced themselves of their own cleverness with the dream of shipping off a first for Stafford, "addressing" the QB position, and then shipping #8 overall off for some 5th wave prospect and another projected low value 1st or a couple 2s to replace the future 1 they gave up it's the definition of cutesy for a team that is in pretty solid positioning for a long term answer, it's what happens when you let math people make football decisions
