  1. If you look at those 5, they all can get separation without it having to be created by play design or a missed assignment. For whatever reason, going back to Benjamin, we seem to love big receivers who can make the contested catch (theoretically), but they can't seem to get open to have a QB look their way. Look at AT. He's not the fastest guy, or the biggest, but his routes are as clean and sharp as any of the top receivers and he can work himself open. We need guys who can get open enough to make a catch, not just ones that can make a contested one.
  2. Yes. The food and beer is mediocre at best compared to other sports venues. If the Panthers didn't get a share of the profits, Tepper would be in a hot mess and he would be in the red. Who is his marketing department targeting? Who is beating down the doors to license the worst franchise across all sports for the last 5 years? Panthers gear is on the clearance rack in thrift shops because no one wants it. This franchise is a joke. The Panthers have zero marketability right now except for maybe pepto. When watching the Panthers gives you nausea, heartburn, idegestion, upset stomach, diarrhea.
  3. Which brings us back full circle to the question, how much did Tepper influence the pick? I doubt we'll ever truly know but having to even ask that question in light of Nicole being involved in a day 2 trade makes you question everything that's going on inside this organization.
  4. They were willing to trade him prior to the tag if they got a ridiculous offer, rumor was 3 1sts and 2nds and maybe a player or 2. After the tag it was just a matter of matching another team's offer if their was one.
  5. To me, the term "consensus" would imply that regardless of the coach or system, that's going to be the pick. Stroud or AR fit Reich's system better than Young which would mean that could be the pick for that reason alone. To me that's not really a "consensus." I know what the term means, it's just in this case, I don't think it necessarily applies like it is being portrayed as a Manning, Luck or Lawrence type prospect.
  6. I think the ones he's referring to are those that buy PSLs as fans and just write the check regardless of what the product has been. Now it's to the point that it's getting really hard to write that check when this is the product being put on the field. No money wasted on merchandise or being spent on overpriced stale beer and gas station food at the stadium. The fan that had that money to spend is now finding other places to use it that provide a better return on investment. There's probably not a huge % of them left, but they're leaving to be replaced by the corporate PSL who really doesn't care what the end product is as long as they can write it off on their taxes and maybe get a playoff game once in a while.
  7. The weird thing is, from what I remember prior to the draft, is Young wasn't the "consensus" until the S2 came out, not like Manning, Luck or Lawrence. There was always talk that all 3 of them, and even possibly Levis were in play at 1. Then the S2 and Purdy's results and what he's done in SF suddenly brought the value of that test to light as the leading metric to determine a QBs future success in the NFL, then everyone else fell to the wayside. Without the hype of the S2, I think we could be having a much different discussion.
  8. And a lot are built around what drives the most clicks. Bryce being the size he is and how it's going to translate into the NFL provides far more content and talkability than CJ Stroud and the history of OSU QBs in the NFL. It also makes for a great overcoming success story which gives even more content. Content doesn't necessarily have to be accurate, it has to be interesting.
  9. There is a huge difference between having a customer and a loyal customer. Loyal customers value your product and are willing to pay more than the average person to consume that product. Finding and keeping your repeat business is crucial. As a business owner, a 1 time customer is nice but that's not the customer I'm after. I want the repeat customer who's going to buy not only one product, but multiple products, year after year.
  10. It's debatable how many PSL holders are legit fans. Many corporations buy PSLs or season tickets to a sports team because they're great for write offs and also good to hand out to potential or current clients.
  11. Being a fan of the Panthers is like getting a prostate exam every week by Andre the Giant. Without lube.
  12. It's not overcompensating. There are only a few NFL QBs 5'10" and under that have had any success in the NFL, the most recent being Kyler Murray (5'10"), who's success has been limited. Other than Murray, you're looking at Doug Flutie (5'10") in the 90's, Davey O'Brien (5'7") in the late 30s/40s, and Eddie LeBaron (5'7") in the 50's and 60's. To ignore that Bryce needs to be a unicorn among unicorns in the modern NFL era to justify what we gave up to draft him is ridiculous. Questioning his ability to be a NFL franchise QB that could carry this team to a Super Bowl like Cam did is a completely legitimate and valid concern, based on NFL history and especially given what we have and haven't seen from him so far. Regardless of situation, there have been plays from Stroud and AR both that shows that they have the ability to be NFL caliber QBs. Even Levis has had a few moments that make you wonder if he has "it" and he wasn't considered a top 3 QB in this draft. Yeah, there's justification to have doubts.
  13. Yes he was. The original asking price before the tag was quite steep, but seeing what we gave up for BY, a complete unknown, the prices were basically equivalent. After the tag, I think the Ravens would just have matched the offer. No way we could have gotten him for just 2 1sts. Trading for Lamar wasn't my 1st choice, or even 2nd or 3rd, but seeing what our FO has done, I don't think they could have bungled it much worse.
  14. Sacks is a deceiving stat. Being able to gain pressure, regardless of sacks, is far more important. Also, being able to be a force in the run game is a must if you want to be paid like an elite edge rusher.
  15. And that's how you know Tepper is a meddling owner. No coach with his choice of QBs is going to choose the one that least fits his system.
  16. If it's true about Tepper forcing the Young pick, how can you expect Reich to be excited about being forced to use a QB that he didn't want. He's doomed to failure right from the beginning. Getting fired was probably the only way he was gonna get paid.
  17. Why give up a sweet gig in the booth to come work for this turd circus.
  18. Looking at the rest of the draft picks, especially Matt Corral, and saying these guys are really good at their jobs, wouldn't be an argument I'd make trying to defend BY as the number 1 pick.
  19. Agree. But you can't do all of that forcing the new GM or coach to build an entire team around one single player who is not showing much, if anything, in terms of elevating the players around him. You bring in a new team CEO, GM and HC, the best you can get given our situation, and let them build their team. If they feel Bryce is worth building around, give them the freedom to do it. If they don't, give them the freedom to not build around him. You can hamstring yourself by limiting yourself to only people who believe in Bryce. You have to get people who know football, and can make an evaluation for the good of the team, whether you like it or not.
  20. It will take more than a single season to fill the offense with players better than JAGs that could even run something similar to what he did at Bama. That's at least 2, maybe 3 more years to get him in a position to be successful. If you limit yourself to a coach that is best running an offense specifically suited for BY, then the HC hire is simple. Nick Saban it is.
  21. It's not the only way to succeed. It may be the only way to keep the job under Tepper, which is in and of itself a significant sign of a much larger issue. Whoever is hired should be able to provide an honest evaluation of Bryce without consequences from Tepper. Right now, Bryce shouldn't be the starting QB for the Panthers. Whether it's the QB or the offense, this isn't the right situation for BY to grow as a QB.
  22. Better question is does Bryce start next week?
