2023-2024 General Canes Thread
MillionDollarCam replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Hurricanes
Welp, here it is. Coghlan to St. Louis’s affiliate, Jones to Colorado’s affiliate, Kochetkov to Tampa’s affiliate, Fensore to Norfolk, FUS to Sweden, and Suzuki/Ponomarev to injured non-roster. Bunting - Aho - Jarvis Teravainen - Kotkaniemi - Necas Martinook - Staal - Fast Lemiuex - Drury - Noesen Svechnikov Slavin - Burns Skjei - Pesce Orlov - DeAngelo Chatfield Andersen Raanta Canes have one open roster spot. -
Frank is right about one thing, we aren’t rebuilding. You had to be built in order to rebuild and we can’t even get the foundation set to start to build.

I like that move for Kochetkov, better to get him games than sit behind Andersen and Raanta. I agree with putting Svechnikov on short term IR and playing FUS until he’s reached the max number of games before he burns a year on his ELC. I’d go: Bunting - Aho - Jarvis Teravainen - Kotkaniemi - Necas Martinook - Staal - Fast Unger-Sorum - Drury - Noesen Lemieux - Suzuki Slavin - Burns Skjei - Pesce Orlov - DeAngelo Chatfield Andersen Raanta IR - Svechnikov, Ponomarev Syracuse (AHL) - Kochetkov Norfolk (ECHL) - Fensore Wherever - Jones, Coghlan Let FUS get nine games then send him to Sweden and put in Svechnikov. The real dilemma comes when Ponomarev is healthy. Do they keep Lemiuex or get rid of him and bring up Pono. -

Kind of shocked Fensore wasn’t sent to Norfolk with the rest of the really young kids. But yeah, I assume there’s some AHL teams out there that could use Suzuki, Ponomarev, Jones, and Coghlan. -

Well, with Coghlan on waivers, that gets us to 23. Jones wasn’t claimed and I doubt Coghlan is either, so I guess we’ll have to find a place for them to play or they’ll just hang around Raleigh waiting for injuries. It’ll be interesting to see where Suzuki, Ponomarev, and Fensore end up; I’m guessing FUS will head to Sweden. -

Suzuki’s injury isn’t considered serious, he’s week to week. -

Yeah I saw some guys are going to the ECHL but Rees got sent to the AHL. Be interesting to see where everyone else gets sent. -
Love seeing Carolina dominate a game but I hope we keep our heads, next week is going to a be a big test. Win that one and the Heels should reach 9-0 before a date with Duke.

Eh looks like Dom Fensore is still with the big club for right now, good for him for making it this far. -

Thomas Brown RKO’s Frank Reich, picks up the headset and calls a great game. -

Caleb Jones cleared waivers. No idea where he’ll go but as for right now Carolina still have his contract rights. -

Rees got assigned to Norfolk. I believe the only kids left are Suzuki, FUS, and Pono. -

Based off last night it looks like Bunting - Aho - Jarvis will be the top line. Turbo - KK - Necas looks to be second line at least until Svech returns. Martinook - Staal - Fast is the third but I wouldn’t be shocked to see Turbo - Staal - Fast once Svech is healthy. Noesen and Drury seem to be cemented on the fourth line and I think Martinook will join them there eventually. I suppose Lemieux will occasionally rotate in. Defensively it looks like it’ll be Slavin - Burns, Skjei - Pesce, Orlov - DeAngelo/Chatfield. I wouldn’t totally be shocked to see us go 11 and 7 until Svech comes back. Suzuki, Unger-Sorum, and Ponomarev are also pushing for roster spots. -

All things considered. I think Teuvo rebounds, Jarvis progresses, Svech takes some time to get going but becomes a 35-40 goal guy, Bunting becomes the additional top six guy we needed, Orlov sures up the defense, TDA fixes the PP, Lemiuex becomes our enforcer, and we win the Cup. Let’s get this show started! -

Not having a healthy Teuvo last year keeps getting overlooked. Having him back at full strength is just like adding another top six winger to the team. -

For once, I agree with Waddell, I like our group. Both Bunting and Orlov are fitting in well, we already know that TDA should help the PP, and Lemiuex should be a good guy to have come playoff time. I will say that Drury better start progressing because Suzuki, FUS, and Ponomarev are nipping at his heels. -
It’ll be nice to see what this offense looks like now that everyone is ready to roll: Maye, Hampton, Brooks, Walker, McCollum, Jones, Paysour, Morales, Copenhaver, Nesbit.
-
Tez Walker and Nate McCollum are gonna feast.
-
I know it’s preseason but Bunting already looks better as a Cane than he ever did with the Leafs. I think it’s a combination of his game really fitting well with what we are trying to do on offense and just a better overall opportunity, i.e. not having to force feed Matthews the puck.
-
Haven’t seen one yet, hope it was just precautionary keeping him out.
-
I think the emergence of FUS is even more of a reason to not rush Svechnikov back. Both FUS and Suzuki have looked really good in preseason.

I think two wins and a draw probably gets us in. Whats ironic is just like last year we head to Chicago in a must win situation.
